Supernatural: Top 5 Season Twelve Episodes

Well, I almost completely forgot I make one of these lists during every hiatus. The hiatus is almost over, dude! I nearly missed it. Sadly, I feel this is a reflection of my larger ennui with the show in general. I just don't get excited about it like I used to. It's a shame because it really was one of my favorite shows, ever. If it had ended many moons ago, it probably still would be in my top shows ever, but now the excellent has been muddled down by so much mediocre that I don't know if it will be.

Ah well, I guess if people are still interested in what I have to say about the show on a weekly basis, I will keep posting.

On to season twelve, the season of Mary's return and Lucifer's return and good lord does anyone ever really stay dead in this series? (No.) I gotta be honest, most of the episodes of the last season don't stand out on their own to me. I remember the overall storylines, but even though the intention was to kind of take things back to earlier seasons with more of a weekly thing going on, I had a hard time picking out episodes I really thought were great. So... these are the ones I think I liked best?

Each title is a link to a scene from the episode.

I almost chose The Raid for this spot, but went for this one instead, as I really enjoyed the twins until they just kind of ruined them at the end. Also Mary kicks some butt.

This must have been the midseason finale? It was a rather large episode in the middle of the season, bringing most of the characters together, and nearly killing Castiel.

I always like it when they take a look at other hunters, because it doesn't really happen very often in the grand scheme of the show. Plus Jody.

I mean, you have to love an episode where Jensen's comic timing gets to shine. Lots of silly Dean stuff in this one.

Mary finally gets her revenge on Ketch, and has a heart to heart with Dean over their deep feelings. The BMOL get theirs in general, really. Plus a family hug!

Honorable Mentions: The Raid, First Blood

Are you ready for season 13? My goodness. Am I ready for season thirteen?! Let me know in the comments which season 12 episodes were your favorites, and what you're hoping for next season!

Supernatural 12x22 "Who We Are" and 12x23 "All Along the Watchtower"

Well, here we are at the end of season twelve. My goodness, can you believe it's been twelve years? That just seems nuts to me. Does anyone have any bets as to just how long this show will keep going? If they could quit recycling the same stories over and over, it wouldn't be so bad, but that seems to be what happens. A lot.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Elizabeth Blackmore as Toni Bevell in Supernatural 12x22 "Who We Are" But let's get on to what happened in this particular finale. It's not really a two hour finale, but rather the two final episodes smushed together on the same night, as the stories aren't really related. Honestly, it would've been more interesting to me if they had actually combined the BMOL storyline with the whole Lucifer baby thing, but...nope. Basically you get two finales, one for the BMOL, and one for the whole angel/demon of it all.

So, let's start with the BMOL, since that's how it goes chronologically anyway. As you may recall, Ketch left the boys and Toni stuck in the bunker with seemingly no way out. They work on trying to find a spell to do it, then try some blunt force, and ultimately come up with the grenade launcher that Dean's wanted to use for years now. It works a charm, though he gets a pretty gnarly leg injury. They need to find Mary, and also warn the other hunters out there, and wouldn't you know it? Mary just happens to be visiting one of our favorite hunters, Jody.

Luckily, Jody is no slouch, so she and Alex managed to capture Mary before she could kill anyone. They want Toni to reverse the brainwashing on Mama Winchester, but she claims it can't be done. Nonetheless, while Sam and the other hunters go off to raid and kill all of the BMOL at their home base, Dean has Toni hook him up to Mary with some kind of brainwave thingy, and he has a chat with her in her unconscious, which happens to be when he was a young boy and Sam a wee babe. He gets through to her just in time, because Ketch shows up and starts beating him around. Of course you know Mary is going to get the last laugh here, which she does. She finally gives Ketch what he deserves - a bullet to the noggin.

Meanwhile, Sam and the others perform their raid pretty easily, and despite Hess trying to talk her way out of them killing her, claiming they need their help since Lucifer is back, nope. Jody gives her one to the noggin as well.

So, the Winchesters are reunited once more. But will they remain so in the next hour?

Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x23 "All Along the Watchtower"On to the actual finale, where we catch up with Castiel and Kelly, who are off at a cabin somewhere awaiting the birth of the spawn of the devil. She's annoyed with some Ikea furniture, blah blah. He sees some kind of rift in the universe, blah bl... oh wait. That's new. We're not sure what this rift is, but it's not a great world on the other side. Spoiler alert - it's a parallel world, not the future.

The Winchesters aren't sure what to do about Lucifer, particularly after they call up Rowena only to have Luci answer on the other end. However, as we all knew, Crowley didn't really die last we saw him, but stole himself into that rat. He red smokes back into his body, and gets a scene straight out of the season 4 premiere where Dean emerged from beneath the earth. So, yes, Crowley pops into the bunker and offers his help. He'll help them put Lucifer back in the cage, then he'll close up the gates of Hell, and they'll all leave each other in peace. Sounds good enough.

They still need to find Cas and Kelly, but once they notice some odd happenings in the Pacific Northwest, they're on the right track. While Mary hangs out with Kelly in the throes of labor, Cas shows the boys the rift, and what's on the other side. Basically, a world where they were never born, which means they weren't around to stop the angels and demons fighting an endless war against each other. But also means Bobby and Rufus are still alive, as well as the OG Mary Campbell. We only see Bobby, but I admit that was a surprise for me for once.

Lucifer shows up, so it's time for a new plan. Get him stuck over in the other world, and lock him in the cage there, seal the rift, and Bob's your uncle. They succeed in getting him to the other side, and Crowley works on the spell, but it needs one last ingredient - a life. Turns out, he's going to sacrifice himself this time around. And that death I believe much more. It activates the spell, but... Lucifer is still there? I don't get it. Was that just to close the rift? Whatever. It does start to shrink. The boys jump through.

But even though Cas tries to jump through and stop Lucifer from coming back over, he does, and ends up killing Cas in the process. Well well well, if this really is meant to end the whole angel/demon storyline and start things fresh, killing both Crowley and Cas would certainly do it. Lucifer turns to the boys, but Mary steps in with her angel-hurting brass knuckles and starts beating him up. Which is to get him back through the rift, which she does, but she ends up getting pulled along too, and wouldn't you know it? Right when it closes. So Lucifer and Mary are stuck in this other Mad Max dimension. For now anyway.

Meanwhile, Sam runs off to find Kelly dead, and child footprints leading to the bedroom. The kid ain't no baby, but rather is already a child with golden yellow eyes and a rather demonic smile.

Okay then.

Random Thoughts:

- There was a Bitch. Jerk. moment. Haven't had one of those in a while.

- Really? They kill Rowena offscreen? My goodness, the treatment of women this season. That's two more minor recurring female characters and one major recurring female character offed without much fanfare. I know a lot of people don't like Rowena, but if that is really the end of her... I mean. Wow. Wait! I also forgot they showed Toni dead barely for a moment as well, killed by Ketch we assume. So that's four total women killed with little fanfare. Mind you, Ketch got his comeuppance on screen. I know Toni we don't care about as much, but sheesh.

- Is this really the last we'll see of Crowley and Castiel? I'm wondering what the reaction to it all is, as I haven't looked at any of it yet. To be honest, I'm tired of the angel and demon storylines, so I would be perfectly fine with it. I know there is a huge Castiel contingent out there, but what does he really have to do anymore?

- And is it the last of Mary? That seems less likely. I feel like for sure they'll try to find a way to get back to that other world. Maybe they'll swap Mary and the kid or something.

- I mean, is the evil child storyline not similar to the Amara one we already dealt with? Grows up fast, has evil powers, yada yada. Let's hope they make it different. Otherwise, it wasn't that great the first time around.

- I almost thought they weren't going to use Carry On in the recap, but it showed up after all. Was it really necessary for two recaps, though? Just more evidence having the two of them air together was not the original plan.

Quotes:

Sam: Goggles?
Dean: Goggles.

Dean: I always thought we'd go out Butch and Sundance style.
Sam: Blaze of Glory.
Dean: Blaze of Glory.

Dean: Okay beautiful. Yippee ki yay mother--

Sam: Go to Hell.
Lucifer: Good one. Witty. I'll use that in the future.

Castiel: I've read 74 books on child rearing, and there is one thing they all agree on. Everybody poops.

Mary: Kinda always wanted to punch the devil in the face.

Supernatural 12x21 "There's Something About Mary"

Recap/review of Supernatural 12x21 "There's Something About Mary" by freshfromthe.com.Okay then. Where to begin. As you may recall, the BMOL captured Mary after she figured out what was going on and tried to escape. Now, they're doing mind whammy stuff on her to "realign" her as Toni says, drugging her up and having her kill other hunters. She's losing it, which is their goal, and even tries to get Ketch to just kill her rather than let it happen. But Ketch is apparently a total dick, and despite having the hint of tears in his eyes, does nothing.

Meanwhile, the boys have started hearing about the deaths of many hunters, including Eileen, who we saw not too long ago, and who was unceremoniously killed off in the opening bits of the show with little fanfare. Um. Okay. Sigh. Jody calls them up to tell them of some more deaths, and they're starting to put two and two together, particularly when they get a letter from Eileen saying she thought her phones were tapped by the BMOL.

They decide to search the bunker for taps as well, and lo and behold, they find the one under the table. So they set up a trap for the BMOL. Things seem to be going just fine when they capture Toni and bring her back to the bunker, only Ketch and some of the other BMOL are there waiting. Blah blah, they do a kind of cool shot 'em up scene that ends up Mary showing up in full brainwash, holding her gun on the boys and forcing them to let Toni and Ketch go.

Recap/review of Supernatural 12x21 "There's Something About Mary" by freshfromthe.com.As Ketch and Mary leave, he tells them he's reversed the oxygen, turned off the water, etc. to the bunker, so they'll only be able to survive for a couple days after the close the door behind them. And of course the please to Mary from Sam and Dean go apparently unnoticed. Ketch also leaves Toni behind, as they are both in contention for heading up the American contingent of the BMOL, blah blah.

Meanwhile, Lucifer has been getting help from a demon to weaken the spell on him, so he can get out of Crowley's grasp and find his unborn son, etc. Somehow, the spell has suddenly decided to start reversing, so by the end of the episode, Lucifer is able to start controlling Crowley instead of the other way around. He beats him around a bit, and seemingly kills him with an angel knife, but duh, no way will they kill Crowley in such a manner, and when you don't see the light and crap when he stabs him, it only confirms that Crowley stole into the rat he looked at before being stabbed.

And then the show ends on the weirdest and stupidest green screen ever of Lucifer standing on a mountain looking over the world. It looked so fake, good GAHHG.

Random Thoughts:

- So you're just going to keep killing off and/or neutering the strong females? Granted, Eileen isn't Jody. I think the fandom would truly revolt if they killed Jody, but come on. You basically killed a strong girl last week, and now this week again? For a show liked by mostly women, they still don't seem to have much respect for them sometimes. I'm sure some people will defend the decision and blah blah blah, but I'm just saying what I personally think.

- Is this the end of the bunker as a home base?

- Will they actually kill Mary off by the end of this? Will she remember who she is and kill herself before allowing something to happen to her boys? I feel like they aren't going to allow this other strong female to live through the season.

- Does anyone care about this stupid Lucifer child storyline anymore? I honestly wouldn't have cared if they killed Crowley at this point. Move on. Seriously.

- Like, I don't know, where does the show keep going? They keep recycling the same stuff. It seems like it will never end at this point.

Quotes:

Dr. Hess: Did you notice my sigh of relief? Oh right, there wasn't one.

Toni: Trust me, the cream always rises to the top.
Ketch: Oh I agree.

Dean: You keep that up, we're gonna have to start dating.

Lucifer: Master strategist. More like Kermit the Frog.

Toni: Rule of thumb... if you think we killed someone, we probably did.

Supernatural 12x20 "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes"

It's funny, when they tried to do a spinoff of Supernatural a couple years ago, they did it terribly and with people they were only introducing in that episode rather than ones they've introduced over time. I would have totally watched a spinoff with Max and Alicia, but it seems like they've just gone and shot that one in the foot now. It's not so interesting when one of them is a stick person controlled by the other.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Kara Royster as Alicia Banes and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x20 "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes"Wait, what?

Yeah, that just sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? Nonetheless, let's discuss how that all came to be. You see, this episode was all about moms. One in the form of Mary Winchester, and one in the form of Tasha Banes. We'll talk about Tasha first, who was off on some kind of hunt, and ends up stabbed. Her kids (well, really just Alicia) get worried when she doesn't call to check in, so they try calling up one of Mary's phones, but get Sam and Dean instead. Side note: how does that random cellphone stay charged for that long? Mysteries never cease.

Though Max protests their involvement, Sam says they need to go do something in the face of all this Lucifer child drama, so off they go. But what's this? Tasha is there and apparently just fine? Well, no, not really. Even though she jokes around with the kids and Dean, Sam ends up finding out something is amiss when he sees a missing poster for someone else they saw at the hotel earlier that day. He pulls Dean aside and they go investigate, finding some dead bodies in a cellar, one of which is none other than Tasha. Max stumbles upon them and sees his mom there lying dead, so you know some ish is about to go down. Meanwhile, we also get to see the crazy old witch woman working on some kind of stick figure upstairs.

Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester in Supernatural 12x20 "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes"Look, long story short, witch woman sold her soul for power and makes these stick people with real people's hearts, who do things for her just so, but now she's worried about dying and going to hell. So she wants to pass on her power, which she offered Tasha, but Tasha didn't bite. She tries to also offer it to Max, but Dean shoots her before he can accept. However, in the other room, Sam and Alicia battle the stick people, and Alicia gets a knife to the gut. She ends up dying, and Sam and Dean just leave Max there alone to take care of things, like ole dummies. Because you know he goes and picks up the magic ring the woman had and brings his sister back as a stick person. Sigh.

Meanwhile, Dean has been trying to get ahold of Mary, who is still at the BMOL bunker with Ketch, none the wiser that Mick is actually dead. They interrogate a shapeshifter, and basically Mary starts to feel a little suspicious about things and goes snooping around, only to find Mick dead in a box, and a room full of surveillance of the boys, among others. Ketch, of course, catches her sneaking around, and they get into some fisticuffs wherein Mary kicks his ass, but is ultimately felled by a taser just after she won the damn fight. Which means she's not getting away, and that woman from the premiere is back to ask her questions or something. But at least she did get a message out to Dean that something wasn't right, so they will likely be going after her next week.

Random Thoughts:

- I mean, really? You kill off one of the side characters that actually has promise? I know technically she is still "alive" as this stick person creature thing, but Max is pretty much in control of her based on what that woman said, so... blugh.

- It was nice to see a woman beat a man in a fight, using certain areas to her advantage. Ha! I mean, yes technically he did "win" in the end, but as she said that wasn't fighting fair.

- Even though I'm poking at the episode, I did like how they were doing a parallel story with the moms and whatnot. At least it was tying the two separate things together in an emotional way.

- Next week: more of the Lucifer baby crap. Ugh.

Quotes:

Sam: Their mom's on a hunting trip, and hasn't been home in a week.

Shifter: Your eye twitches when you lie.
Ketch: My eye twitches all the time.

Tasha: You must be drunk.
Dean: Off of wine?

Supernatural 12x19 "The Future"

Well, we're in to the home stretch here on season 12. Things are starting to come to a head with the Lucifer baby mama storyline in this week's episode. Sort of. I have to wonder if they're going to make the two main storylines of the season come together in some way - this one and the BMOL one. They've sort of crossed paths before, so it only seems natural.

Ali Ahn as Dagon, Courtney Ford as Kelly Kline, Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural 12x19 "The Future"Anywho, what happened in this week's episode? Why, the return of everyone's favorite angel in a trench coat, Castiel! Yep, Cas has returned from Heaven to supposedly come clean to the boys about what he's been doing. Though we soon find out his admissions of guilt and trying to find help in Heaven are really just a semi-ruse to get the colt and head off to find Kelly on his own. Or, rather, with another angel dude from before. They've tracked down Dagon and Kelly at their rundown house, wherein Kelly lost all hope and tried to off herself, but was resurrected by her unborn nephilim child, and now has faith that he will be good, yada yada.

Cas and his angel buddy get into fisticuffs with Dagon, but she beats them pretty easily. However, Cas is able to get away with Kelly and the colt, so that's something. His plan initially was to kill Kelly right there, but wavered once he saw her. So now his plan is to take Kelly and the baby up to Heaven, which really means they'll die, but at least they won't start another apocalypse or whatever.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Courtney Ford as Kelly Kline, Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural 12x19 "The Future"Meanwhile, Sam has been postulating about other ways they could save Kelly without her having to die, and believes they could do some kind of grace extraction wherein the kid would become just human. They track down Cas and Kelly to tell them about this plan, but because Kelly had a vision earlier when Castiel put his hand on her belly, she's all no way and drives off with Cas in the impala to the sandbox entrance to Heaven.

Of course, Dagon shows up because they can get into said sandbox, and more fighting ensues. Dean and Sam show up just before Dagon is going to kill Cas and try to kill her with the Colt, but she manages to get it away from them and immediately melts it down. Well, that was a short resurrection for that old friend. But you know that they're not going to kill Cas right now, so Kelly grabs his hand and her baby infuses him with mysterious powers that make his eyes glow a kind of goldish color, and he smites Dagon into fire right there.

The Winchesters try to convince him to stick around and, I don't know, discuss options or whatever, but he's now had the kool aid and believes the child should be born with all of its powers intact. Because it showed him the future or something. Always a good sign.

Random Thoughts:

- Can I just ask what was the point of bringing Mary back if she's not really utilized? I guess if she were utilized more, then they'd probably end up killing her off or something, but still. For this person who kind of kickstarted the whole show to come back to not have more of a role is just odd to me.

- Can this baby really not be evil? What could it have shown Castiel in the future? Does it ever show lies? Who knows.

- So much man drama.

Quotes:

Sam: Where have you been?
Dean: Let me rephrase that for Sam, where the hell have you been?

Sam: Of course. I am an idiot.
Dean: Well there's no argument there.

Castiel: This is my voicemail. Make your voice...a mail.

Supernatural 12x18 "The Memory Remains"

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Antonio Marziale as Daryn Boston in Supernatural 12x18 "The Memory Remains"After too much of a focus on the BMOL last week, this week it's back to a case of the week monster with the brothers Winchester. Well, with a little BMOL splashed in too, but this time just the right amount. With Ketch's new orders to take out all of the American hunters, he sends Sam and Dean off on a case so he and some lackeys can study the bunker and learn all they can about the Winchesters. You know, like steal a photo of young Dean with Mary. And leave a bug. That sort of stuff.

Meanwhile, the brothers head off to investigate the disappearance of a kid in Wisconsin, who was taken by some goat dude. They find out that another kid thinks it was Black Bill, which is an urban legend I've only tangentially heard of myself, but apparently is a thing. As is the show's wont, before the next commercial break, the kid who saw the goat dude is the next one to be taken! Dun dun dun.

The case of the week is actually fairly simple for them to figure out. All of the disappearances lead back to the local meat factory, which just happens to be owned by the local sheriff, whose family has been sort of the it family of the town for generations. He's been selling off pieces of his inheritance for awhile, but they know something fishy must be up, so they head to the family estate.

Steve Boyle as Sheriff Barrett and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x18 "The Memory Remains"What do they find there? Just a murder dungeon, you know, no big thing. The sheriff shows up then as well, and tells them the scoop - his family has trapped this goat god called Malek for a long time, feeding him human blood. They wear a goat mask thing to take the people, hence the Black Bill references. But, when his dad died, he decided it was time to set things right. He locked up Malek and hoped he would starve to death.

Only, what's this? Malek isn't in his hidey hole dungeon cave? Nope! Who could have let him out? Well, it's whoever is now in the house upstairs. Dean goes to investigate while the others get trapped downstairs, so of course Dean gets taken by a dude in a goat suit. But wait, who could it be? I thought all of the sheriff's family was gone?

Turns out, the guy who runs the factory is his half-brother and unleashed Malek to try to reclaim what he deemed rightfully his, yada yada. Sam and the sheriff make it back just in time before Malek is able to start feasting on Dean, and Sam kills him with the trusty colt. Because, as Dean puts it, work smarter not harder.

They head back to the now-bugged bunker to have their brotherly end of episode chat there instead of in the car. You know, so Ketch can listen in. Dean is concerned they might not leave a legacy, but Sam says their legacy is the people they've saved, that they're leaving the world better than when they started. And then they carve their initials into the table because they're saps like that.

Random Thoughts:

- In all seriousness, this was a pretty good episode. I kid because I love. Or something.

- But for real, I'm tired of the main storyline. I guess this BMOL side storyline isn't so bad, but I could give two hoots about the whole impending demon child.

- There were a lot of fun quotes this episode, I think I got most of them, but I know I missed a couple.

- It seems like Ketch has for realsies feelings about Mary, so it definitely doesn't seem like he's going to actually go through with killing them all. But we'll see, I guess. Hopefully it doesn't mean Mary ends up accidentally killed saving her boys by him or something.

Quotes:

Sam: I spent all night going through all our books on demons. And it turns out, we have a lot of books on demons.

Dean: We got a dude with a goat head with a name like a pirate.

Dean: Work smarter, Sammy, not harder.

Sam: Oh don't do the hot coffee thing.
Dean: Boy this coffee is HOT.

Dean: Oh come on this guy's adorable, he plays a frickin' flute.

Dean: Hello? Goat dude?

Dean: Why is it always the rich ones? Why are they like, croquet's all right, but you know what would be great? Murder.

Dean: So now we're reporting to low rent Christian Bale, seriously?

Supernatural 12x17 "The British Invasion"

As seems to be the case with many of the past seasons, I seem to enjoy the more one-off episodes than the ones dealing with the overall arc of the season. So, you can kind of guess that this one wasn't necessarily one of my favorites. The thing is, where in the first five seasons most episodes were fairly memorable, now they've all become kind of a jumble of not-so-memorable, where I don't remember what happens in which episode.

ared Padalecki as Sam, Shoshannah Stern as Eileen Leahy, Adam Fergus as Mick Davies and Darren Adams as Renny Rawlings in Supernatural 12x17 "The British Invasion"Anyway. What did happen in this episode, then? Well, we return to the overall storyline of the impending birth of Lucifer's baby via Kelly Kline, who is being protected by Dagon, one of the big demons. Turns out, Eileen, who we met some episodes ago, has had some luck tracking her down. She visited a clinic recently to get a check up on the baby, blah blah blah. Honestly I was only half paying attention to the logistics behind all of this. Basically, Eileen gets her phone number and Sam uses an accent to trick her into going back to the clinic, where Dean nabs her.

The real story in this episode revolves around the BMOL. Turns out, the head office in London isn't satisfied with the progress in recruiting the American hunters. They want them to follow orders now. Mick himself is having a tough time sticking to the code of the MOL at this juncture, particularly since it's all bringing up memories about how he was forced to kill his best friend as a child because of said code. The headmistress lady sends a goon over to watch Mick, who joins him, the Winchesters, and Eileen in trying to talk sense into Kelly about her Nephilim child. Of course, Dagon shows up to ruin the party, and Eileen accidentally kills the BMOL lacky while trying to shoot Dagon with the colt. Apparently the code states that if a BMOL is killed, whoever did it must then be killed in retribution? What kind of weird ass code is this, anyway?

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 12x17 "The British Invasion" The brothers talk him out of it, but he still reports all of it to the home office, the dummy. That gets him a visit from the headmistress and Ketch, wherein he stands up for himself, and promptly gets a bullet in the head from Ketch for his troubles. Just when he was starting to get endearing. Basically, the headmistress, Dr. Hess I think, wants him to put an end to the hunters. All of them. Which would include...

Mary. Who has been working with Ketch all this time, and apparently decided to get some hanky panky time with him too. He claimed that there was no emotional connection between them when she said it didn't mean anything, but methinks he will come around to the side of the Winchesters as well by the end of it all. I could be wrong, but...

Meanwhile, back in Crowley's lair, he thinks he's got Lucifer all cowed and ready to obey his orders. Lucifer plays along, but hints to the followers that he's just putting it all on for show. One such follower comes to his aid, but confirms that whatever wards are on his vessel are still holding strong, and he doesn't know how to get rid of them since Crowley killed the demon who created them. Is Rowena going to come back into play here somehow? Would not be surprised.

Random Thoughts:

- Oh look, they decided to start showing previews again at the end of the episode, rather than just touting Riverdale. It got cut off near the end, but it looks like more of a standalone episode, so perhaps I will enjoy it more.

- There were multiple mentions in this episode that Cas has been MIA for some time now. What has he been up to? Will we be getting a Cas-centric episode soon? Seems likely.

- Do we think this child will actually be born, or will they stop the birth somehow? Maybe Kelly will come to her senses now that Dagon has told her that all of the mothers die when birthing Nephilim.

- I feel like they don't quite know what to do with Mary anymore. She was just in a random few scenes this week. I find it more interesting when she's interacting with the boys, which has been very little of late.

Quotes:

Dean: Well that's cute.
Sam: Come on.

Sam: Wow, you look like crap.
Dean: Yeah, you look crappier.

Ketch: So you want to have it all.
Mary: Trying to.
Ketch: Good for you.

Dean: Welcome back, sweetheart.

Supernatural 12x16 "Ladies Drink Free"

It's been a few weeks, but Supernatural is back, and can you believe we're already more than halfway through the season? As promised, this season hasn't really been about one big bad in particular, but more about smaller stories along the way, with a bunch of Lucifer stuff thrown in.

Kathryn Love Newton as Claire Novak and Adam Fergus as Mick Davies in Supernatural 12x16 "Ladies Drink Free"After focusing on vampires not too long ago, the show forayed back into one of the other prongs of the fantasy trifecta - werewolves. The Winchesters plus Mick, who apparently wants to tag along with them in order to learn how to be a better hunter rather than just a good researcher, or something, track down a girl who was attacked by a werewolf, with her brother being killed. While talking to the girl, Mick sees that she's been bitten, but hides it to himself. The brothers also find out that a young, blonde with an attitude saying she was from the department of fish and game also stopped by earlier. Who could that be?

Yes, it's the return of Claire, who is always more fun when paired with Jody, but we can't always get what we want, I guess. Anyhow, she has secretly been hunting on her own while Jody thinks she's been off looking at colleges. Which, how many teenagers go look at colleges completely on their own, either? But whatever, she's lying, yada yada. Who else is lying? Mick, of course. He pretends to retired early for the night, but actually goes back and kills the young infected girl, because that's the way the BMOL do things.

He manages to keep it under wraps for a bit, at least until Dean figures out he's lying about what he was up to the previous night while interrogating a bar dude. He gets the truth out of him, and of course is none too happy about it. Meanwhile, Sam has paired up with Claire, who finds out that the girl in question had been seeing a guy at the bar secretly, and they deduce that the werewolf didn't kill her, but instead just wanted to change her. Sam then gives her a hard time for hunting on her own, and she goes off in a tiff, gets jumped by said werewolf, and gets herself bitten.

Now, earlier on in the episode, Mick mentioned they had tried to find a cure for lycanthropy some time ago, but claimed it didn't work. Well, apparently it worked 1 in 9 times on mice, so they want to give it a go with Claire, who is convinced she can't handle being a werewolf, that she'll go crazy and attack her loved ones. What does one need for this cure of sorts? Why, the live blood of the werewolf who turned her, duh!

Adam Fergus as Mick Davis, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x16 "Ladies Drink Free"Sam and Dean go off to get that while Mick watches Claire, who starts to feel the effects of the bite. The brothers end up chasing after the wrong bartender, because also duh, and the werewolf dude shows up at the hotel and knocks out Mick and takes Claire off to his apartment. Because we've only had two real supporting characters so far in this episode, the others figure out where to go, just as Claire starts to go all wolfed out.

They manage to wrestle some blood from the dude, and give her the cure. She writhes around a bit, and it seems like she may have died, but since she is one of the only girls left on this show, and it would've been a lame way to kill her, no. She's cured! And she calls up Jody to tell her that she's really been hunting, because love and feels and stuff. The Winchesters are willing to give Mick a second chance despite his lying to them about killing the other girl, because there was this whole thing about second chances earlier and blah blah.

I'll be honest, it was kind of a meh episode for me.

Random Thoughts:

- I mean, I don't dislike Claire, but you know I'd rather see Jody or Donna any day. Or at least more of them together.

- There was also some hints mentions of how the BMOL have been killing off werewolf packs, and they're meant to live in packs. I wonder if that means Garth is going to make another appearance, unless he was killed sometime offscreen.

- It was pretty precious seeing the boys react to getting their own rooms with the little shampoos and such. A three star hotel is a magical thing for them.

Quotes:

Dean: Either you get good fast, or you get dead faster.

Dean: I'm ruined, Sam. Those limey sons of bitches ruined me. I even took a swim this morning.
Sam: You brought a swimsuit?
Dean: No.
Sam: Ugh...

Dean: Young. Blonde. Pissed off. Sound like anyone we know?

Dean: Yeah. Sam's best friend. They're, like, nerd soulmates.

Claire: Sam, no offense, but who do you think the kids are going to want to talk to... me? Or an old skeezer?

Supernatural 12x15 "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell"

Last week, Sam decided to start working with the BMOL, despite Dean's many reservations. Oh wait, he hasn't yet told Dean that he's partnering up with them, so all of these cases they've been working back to back are from his secret computer algorithm. You know, the one that texts him under the name Frodo. Luckily for Sam, he can just start spouting some techie talk and Dean zones out completely, so he doesn't really ask questions.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x15 "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell"
Said case of the week involves a kid who was killed while on a camping trip with his girlfriend. What killed him? Well, the case this week isn't so much about what this week, because it was a hellhound, plain and simple. But why is it out attacking random people who haven't sold their souls? That's the real question. And the only one who can answer that is...

Crowley! Who's still holed up with Lucifer, now boasting about how he is always ten steps ahead of whatever Luci thinks he has cooked up his sleeve. We're made to believe that some of Crowley's subdemons get the best of him, stealing the key to Lucifer's chains while Crowley is distracted by the call from the Winchesters, and subsequent visit to help them wrangle the hellhound. But, it would seem he knew all along that those subdemons actually released said hellhound in order to distract him so they could free Lucifer. Which they do, after making him "agree" to some terms, which my boyfriend said while half-watching it with me, "you know he's just going to kill them as soon as they let him go." And... yep! Poof!

Meanwhile, Crowley informs them that the hellhound on the loose is Ramsey, none other than, like, the oldest and baddest of the hellhounds who will only listen to Lucifer. Now, you may think that would mean Lucifer would come into play somehow here, but you'd be wrong. Seems an odd missed opportunity, but okay. Basically, they split up, the hellhound goes after Sam and the girl, and he manages to kill it, I should say, pretty easily. So, farewell to the boss bitch hellhound.

Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer in Supernatural 12x15 "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell"Crowley heads back to his lair, where Lucifer is all ready to gloat. He gets to it, going all angel-wingy, red eyes and stuff, but then Crowley shuts him down with a simple snap of his fingers. Turns out, he really is steps ahead. He had this vessel specially made with runes and spellwork directly from the cage, so Lucifer is essentially trapped again. How long will this last? Only time will tell.

But what's going on with Castiel, you wonder? Yes, Cas is in this episode, however briefly. He's on the trail of Lucifer's baby mama. Well, first he's investigating the death of another angel, but he soon finds out said angel was killed by one Dagon, prince of hell, who was protecting the baby mama. While investigating, he is approached by another angel who wants to bring him back into Heaven's fold, since they are all trying to take out the spawn of Satan, after all. He is reluctant at first, but eventually agrees.

And! By episode's end, Sam decides to man up and tell Dean where their cases have been coming from, because at least they've learned not to lie to each other for tooooo long anymore. Dean isn't happy about it, but agrees to work with the BMOL, at least until they mess up in some way. So, yeah, Sam was right when he told Mick he could get Dean to come around.

Random Thoughts:

- The joke in the beginning was not lost on me - the boys come back from a hunt with a baseball bat covered in barbwire that "dad" used to love. Aka JDM's character on Walking Dead uses. Har har.

- Totes random observation - Jared seems to have these pink patches just below his eyebrows in some scenes. Am I going nuts? Maybe it's just the lighting on the TV or something, but it does distract me from time to time.

- I didn't get as many of the longer exchanges of quotes, but there were some fun ones throughout between the boys. Their rapport lately has been a lot of fun in nearly every episode.

- Man is it a relief to have Mark Pellegrino back as Lucifer. Hot damn is he so much better than basically everyone else they've had in the role. Just a certain casual smugness and delight while still exuding menace.

Quotes:

Dean: Computers... Monsters. Porn. Is there anything they can't do?

Sam: I'm serious, dude. You smell like roadkill.
Dean: That's because I do all the heavy lifting.

Sam We say something that will give her peace, help her sleep at night.
Dean: Oh, so we lie.
Sam: Yeah. A lot.

Crowley: You miss me?

Dean: And this is why you don't drive.

Supernatural 12x14 "The Raid"

As you may recall from last week's episode, Mary finally told the boys that she's been working with the BMOL. They're none too pleased to hear this news, and Dean basically gets into a snit and tells her to leave. Sam, always caught in the middle, seems to agree with Dean. At least for now. But he wants to at least hear her out, which pisses Dean off. What else is new! While he goes off to have a drink or two, Sam decides to answer an urgent text from Mary and see what's what.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and David Hadyn-Jones as Mr. Ketch in Supernatural 12x14 "The Raid"You see, Mary is working with the BMOL, and their current goal is to take down all of the vampires. They have some special vamp killing device they've been using, and have nearly eradicated all of the nests in the midwest region of the US in record time. Sam gets a nice rundown of all of this info, along with seeing the BMOL bunker, which is much more high-tech, and as he calls it, low budget Mission Impossible.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ketch has gone rogue a bit. He doesn't really agree that the Winchesters are necessary to join the cause, but the upper BMOL want them, so he decides to pay Dean a visit, offering him some top notch Scotch and the lowdown on a nest of vampires they can go take down together. Of course, because Dean loves to take out his anger by killing monsters, he agrees. But when they arrive at the rundown hotel where the vamps are supposedly holed up, dun dun dun, they're not there! As the lone vamp left behind tells them (how convenient), they're off hunting the hunters.

Yep, because the Alpha Vamp has returned, and he wants to take out this American chapter of the BMOL taking out so many of his babies, so he told them where they're hiding out. The vamps surround the BMOL bunker, and boy do they look like someone caught with their pants down. Hardly anyone with any hunting ability, and barely any weapons on hand. But there is one special weapon they can use to take down the Alpha Vamp. You know, the Colt that Mary stole not so long ago. And it just so happens that Sam knows how to make new bullets for it! Did we know he knew this? Who the hell knows.
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester in Supernatural 12x14 "The Raid"
Anyhow, he gives the recipe to Mick and he and Mary and the other hunter they've recruited go off to get more weapons, along with that vamp killing device from earlier. Only it turns out the hunter is secretly working for the Alpha.

The Alpha shows up and corners everyone, but Sam pulls out the Colt. Of course, we saw moments before that Mick has all the bullets they made, so Sam engages in some subtle subterfuge, pretending to give up Mick in order to cause a scene and get one of the bullets. And what do you know, just like that the Colt is back in action to kill said Alpha Vamp.

Someone through all of this, Dean and Ketch have apparently just been driving the whole time to get there even though it didn't seem like it took Sam that long to get there from the bunker, but okay. Time shenanigans in whatever favor they need, I suppose. Basically, Dean admits that when he found out Mary was in trouble he went as quickly as possible, so clearly he isn't going to hold a grudge that hard against family. Meanwhile, Sam tells Mick that he's in to work with the BMOL, despite how ill-equipped they were for that fight. Because they have bigger ideas in mind, he wants to be part of that, and he thinks he can eventually get Dean to come around too.

Random Thoughts:

- Is there going to be some ulterior motive of the BMOL that gets revealed, or can we just believe that they're really doing what they say?

- Go see Logan! Ha, okay that's not Supernatural related, but that's why my review is a bit later than usual tonight, because I went and saw Logan. Sooo good!

- I also thought they had killed the Alpha vamp like back in season six or something? Was it just that they thought they had, when they hadn't really? Honestly it gets hard to keep track anymore, and I don't care enough to try to figure it out.

Quotes:

Mary: And you are not a child.
Dean: I never was.

Dean: You're always playing the middle, Sam. For once, why don't you pick a side?

Alpha Vamp: I've seen your work in England. I didn't get involved because, well, it's England.

Supernatural 12x13 "Family Feud"

I didn't forget about the show being on this week! Yay! Ha. Too bad this week's episode wasn't as worth watching immediately as the past couple of weeks when I was delayed. Not to say it was awful or anything, just kind of blah. They did try to make a monster of the week have more of a connection to the main story, sort of, but only just.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Ruth Connell as Rowena, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 12x13 "Family Feud"Anyhow, yes, a seeming monster of the week is afoot in the form of a ghost killing a bunch of teachers. Sam and Dean trace the ghost to a shipwreck from the 1700s. A shipwreck that it just so happens was supposed to contain Crowley's son so many moons ago. You know, Gavin, who was brought to the present day by Abaddon some time ago. I honestly didn't even really remember that happening, but there you go, paying it back, show!

The boys don't know where Gavin is, so they try going to Crowley for help. But, Crowley is little busy at the moment with none other than our dearly resurrected favorite form of Lucifer. That is to say, Mark Pellegrino, back at it again. Crowley apparently subverted Rowena's spell, and now has Lucifer chained up. He also conveniently saved the vessel he used before, hence Mark being back again. Lucifer also tells Crowley that his bun in the oven is still alive, which big C is none too pleased about.

And what about that bun in the oven? Well, Kelly is out there, barely able to scrounge enough change for a small orange juice. Some angels are on her tail, but the demon who we knew was going to appear, Dagon, does indeed appear just in time to save her from the angels. And it looks like Lucifer calls her there at the end of the episode as well, so you know that's all going to end well.

Mark Sheppard as Crowley and Ruth Connell as Rowena in Supernatural 12x13 "Family Feud"Okay, back to the boys. Since Crowley won't help, they call up the next best thing - Rowena. She's reluctant at first, but eventually agrees, and they tell her Gavin is her grandson. Basically, it turns out that Gavin's sweetheart had stowed herself away on the ship, thinking he was going to be on it. But, he never was on it thanks to time travel, and she ended up being taken advantage of on the ship before dying aboard it. Because their childhood teacher said she deserved it, she's now going after teachers in the modern day.

The only way to fix things, really, is for Gavin to go back and join her on the ship. Crowley shows up to object to all of this, but Rowena stops him from interfering, so the boys are able to send him back. Crowley is none too pleased with his mother, but she was just getting some payback from that time when Crowley made her kill that kid she loved to remove the Mark of Cain. You know. No big.

The boys had also tried to call up Mary to see if she wanted to join them on the hunt, but she declined, saying she was still recovering, but instead she was off working with Mr. Ketch, taking down a Rugaru with some head explody device thingy. Ketch wants her distance herself from the boys because she's a better hunter when she's not motherly, but instead she decides to confess to them that she's been working with the BMOL. They're none too pleased about it, but she asks them to at least listen to her. So... we'll see what happens there.

Random Thoughts:

- Seriously, though, are they just never going to show previews at the end of the show again? Do they really think the little bumper about Riverdale is making a difference? Because I have to tell you, I watch on my DVR anyway, so I'm not sticking around in realtime to watch Riverdale.

- Even though I've been a bit over the Lucifer storyline as a whole, I must admit that it is nice to have Mark back again. He's such an improvement over every other version of Lucifer, it's almost silly.

- You know the BMOL and the Winchesters will have to team up to try to take down Lucifer once he inevitably gets free and the baby is either born or almost born or something. It just feels naturally where things will have to go, right?

Quotes:

Crowley: What, no snarky devilish comment? You have nothing to say?
Lucifer: Thanks?

Dean: Hmm. Aztecs were pretty serious about their killings. Aztec ghost. Yeah I like that.

Dean: Wait a minute, I know something about something.

Lucifer: A chip off the ole ball of Heavenly light, if you know what I mean.

Crowley: Turns out behind that whole moron facade, you and your brother are, in fact, morons!

Lucifer: I could use a little dad advice right about now. When do you let 'em date?

Dagon: I'm a demon. You're Rosemary. Complete with baby.

Mary: Do not give me the face.
Dean: What face.
Mary: You know the face.
Dean: There's no face.
Mary: That's the face.

Supernatural 12x12 "Stuck in the Middle (With You)"

Oopsie. Guys, I completely forgot the show was on last night. I was home doing whatever, totally could've watched it, but nope, didn't even cross my mind! So... whoops! Shame because this was another pretty good episode. I must say things have been better this season. I particularly liked that it hearkened back to the long ago days of the yellow-eyed demon that started everything. But I'm getting ahead of things!

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Misha Collins as Castiel, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x12 "Stuck in the Middle (With You)"This episode is a little tough to recap chronologically within the episode itself, as it did a lot of jumping around in time, focusing on different characters in each mini chapter. So I'll just give a rundown of what basically happened in the right order. Basically, Mary got a call from the BMoL (British Men of Letters) to go get something from a demon's place. She called up her friend Wally for help, along with Sam, Dean, and Castiel, though she didn't tell them that her real mission was to pick up a mystery item.

Anyhow, they make a plan to ambush the demon when he gets home. Only the ambush doesn't go so well - he's not phased by bullets, and more importantly not phased by the demon knife. Also, some other demons have shown up as well, so of course a fight ensues. One of those extra demons manages to kill Wally before Sam and Dean are able to dispatch them. And the head demon guy pulls this lance thing out of midair and stabs Cas with it, and then reveals to Mary that he has yellow eyes! Oh but I forgot, while they were getting the ambush set up, Mary was secretly obtaining the mystery object from a locked safe. So she has it.

Ok! So basically they manage to get away because Mary hits the demon with a car and they drive off. Cas isn't able to heal himself, and indeed has some bad looking black lines spidering out from the wound. Sam is all like WTF Mom, what's a YED doing here? Crowley shows up for a helpful explanation - he's Ramiel, and Prince of Hell. One of the first demons created by Lucifer himself, much like Azazel from yesteryear. He was a prince of hell? I don't remember that bit, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Basically, he tells them the wound can't be healed, it was from the lance of Michael, which it turns out he gifted to Ramiel some six years ago, along with the mystery object. Ramiel was supposed to take over Hell, but instead told Crowley to do it as he didn't care.

Supernatural 12x12 "Stuck in the Middle (With You)"Crowley tries to talk Ramiel out of going after all of the Winchesters and Castiel, but he's having none of that. He comes in, pulls out the lance, and proceeds to beat down them all down after first giving Mary a window to hand over the mystery object, which she doesn't, and still doesn't tell anyone else about. Fight fight fight, Sam manages to get the lance out of Ramiel's hands and stabs him with it, turning him into a dust cloud.

Of course, Castiel is still lying there dying, but Crowley manages to come to his rescue, breaking apart the lance, and thereby the magic runes that do its dirty work, which magically heals Castiel. They all wonder what the heck Ramiel could've been talking about, but Mary still doesn't tell them. But, when she meets up with Mr. Ketch later, we see - it was the Colt. Yes, that Colt that killed ole YED so many years ago. I admit I forgot whatever happened to it. But doesn't it need special bullets? I thought those were all gone.

Also! Crowley goes back to his lair, and who does he have locked up? None other than Lucifer, who I'm pretty sure was being played by Mark Pellegrino, but I can't be 100% sure since they only sort of showed him. And again no preview for next week, so who the heck knows what that episode will be about.

Random Thoughts:

- Soooo now Crowley can lock up Lucifer in some flimsy cage? Apparently that egg thingamajig took out some of his powers or something? And how is he back in the Pellegrino vessel? So many questions.

- You know we're going to be meeting those other two Princes of Hell that were mentioned, particularly since one of them has "taken an interest" in the gestating spawn of Lucifer.

- You also know that eventually the boys are going to find out about Mary's dealings with the BMoL, and they are going to be pissed, especially when they find out that she gave them the Colt. I'm still unclear on if there are any more bullets. And I really have no recollection about what happened to it so many moons ago, but I guess Crowley somehow got it? Sure.

- It seemed pretty easy to break that lance and magically heal Castiel. I mean obviously they're not going to kill Castiel in some random mid season episode, but still.

- I also kind of wanted more of Ramiel, he was interesting. But also really bad at fighting seeing as Sam got the lance away from him so dang easily.

Quotes:

Mary: Thanks for coming, I know you're busy.
Castiel: Mmm. Not really.

Mary: Did you see his eyes? He had yellow eyes.
Sam: Mom, what did you get us into?

Mary: Since when is life about getting what you want?

Dean: Wow, you look like hammered crap.
Castiel: Yeah, that sounds about right.

Crowley: You idiots. You're all going to die.
Dean: Well this day just keeps getting better and better.

Crowley: Ramiel, Prince of Hell. It's catchy, it rhymes.

Castiel: You're my family. I love you.

Supernatural 12x11 "Regarding Dean"

I suppose we were due for a funnier episode, right? Because this one certainly provided a lot of humor, and a lot of chances for Jensen Ackles to show off his comedic timing. I admit this one is probably one of my favorite ones of the season so far. It's nice to have a little diversion, don't you agree? Also, sorry this review is a bit late. I was on a late flight home last night and didn't have a chance to watch the episode until this morning.
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x11 "Regarding Dean"
Anyhow! On to the plot. Dean is running through the woods, in chase of a man. We must assume this man is a witch or something thanks to the reminder in the previously on section of the show, and low and behold, he does some spell on Dean that knocks him out cold. When he wakes up in the woods in the morning, his phone is broken, so he finds a young jogger who will let him borrow his phone to call up Sam to meet him at the waffle house close by.

Turns out, Dean doesn't remember much of the previous night. He assumes this must be the remnants of an epic night that turned into a blackout, which seems to be supported by a woman coming up to him and slapping him when he doesn't remember her. But, we the audience know differently, of course. Witchy shenanigans are afoot! So, Dean increasingly starts acting odd, not remembering which key starts the impala, or certain details of the case they came to this town to investigate without being prompted by Sam first.

However, said case gets a boost when they find a hex bag in the victim's autopsy leftovers. Yep, witches are at hand. But things are just getting worse for Dean - he can't remember what a lamp is, and starts forgetting even more important details than that. Like, you know, that they're hunters and all that. Sam knows this isn't right, and calls up Rowena for help. She says the only way to get rid of this memory wiping curse is to kill the witch who did it, so they go searching for said witch. Eventually they do find him, but lo, Dean must have gotten in a shot, because he's dead.

With nowhere else to turn, Sam asks Rowena to come help. She does, secretly wanting to get her hands on the grimoire that she knows these witches have. Because she knew them once upon a time when she first moved to the states, but they were jerks to her. Sam goes off to try to find the grimoire while Rowena stays back with Dean, to make sure he doesn't, you know, go wandering off, now that he doesn't even really remember who he even is.
Ruth Connell as Rowena and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x11 "Regarding Dean"
But, when Sam finds the witches, they promptly get the upper hand. Luckily, he happens to be on the phone with Rowena at the time, so she overhears this and knocks out Dean, taking them both to the house. She leaves Dean in the car, but of course he wakes up and doesn't stay inside it, despite the many post it notes. That, however, turns out to be a good thing, because the other witches are getting the upper hand on both Sam and Rowena. Thanks to a handy dandy "witch killing bullets" note and a "this one" note to the right gun, however, Dean comes in just in the knick of time and kills off the evil witches. But, you know, not before hesitating about whether he should shoot the witch dude or Sam, not remembering who was who.

So, Rowena restores Dean's memories. She tries to abscond with the grimoire, but Sam stops her and takes it away. However, they do owe her one, so you know that will come back around sometime. Then the brothers Winchester have their patented by the impala brotherly end of episode chat, wherein Sam says it was nice to at least see Dean look happy without the weight of the world on him for a bit, but Dean counters with it made him forget the good along with the bad, so in the end that's not worth it.

Random Thoughts:

- The little montage at the end was a bit silly since we'd just seen all of those scenes a few minutes ago, apart from riding the mechanical bull.

- Are they not showing previews for next week's episodes anymore, or is my DVR just cutting them off now? I already have it set to record a minute longer than all of my shows because it constantly was cutting off the endings of shows before that, but not sure if this is just me again or what.

- This episode was one of the few times where I didn't get totally annoyed with Rowena. Which is pretty amazing considering she was in a good portion of it. I think maybe because she didn't have so many quippy lines or something? Am I the only one?

- There were a lot of quotes this week with Dean losing his memory. I didn't get all of them, but I got as many as I could below!

Quotes:

Dean: What psycho doesn't like waffles? I mean they're fluffy, filled with pockets full of syrup, just covered in whipped cream. Am I right?

Dean: Devil baby mama drama. Say that five times fast.

Dean: I guess it's true what they say. Mo' money, mo' problems.
Sam: I hope you're still drunk.

Sam: Dory?
Dean: I'm not gonna apologize for loving that fish. Not to you, not to anyone.

Sam: What are you doing?
Dean: Trying to read my lips.... my salsa, you mittens.
Sam: You can't read lips.
Dean: I can't read lips.

Dean: I like you, you've got plenty of snuff.

Rowena: You know what they say, nothing heals old wounds like opening fresh ones.

Supernatural 12x10 "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets"

For anyone looking for a Castiel/angel-centric episode, look no further. Yes, we took a break from the main storyline.... well. What IS the main storyline? Maybe we didn't take a break from it after all. As promised, it doesn't seem like there is really a big bad this season, other than perhaps the British Men of Letters, Lucifer stuff, and Mary being around.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural 12x10 "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets" Anyway! Back to this episode. Dean is miffed at Castiel for messing with the order of the universe by killing Billie. Which I call a rather huge case of hypocrisy given how much the Winchesters have done just that. I mean really? Where does he get off lecturing Cas about that sort of thing? Do we not remember how they got rid of the Mark of Cain?

That has to take a backseat for the main story of the night, though. A angel that used to be in Castiel's regiment, Benjamin, was killed. He wants to find out who did it, so he meets up with some other angel friends of his who were in the same battalion. Turns out, Benjamin was not the first, some others had been killed as well. So why did Cas not feel those deaths? Whatever!

When said murderess shows up at the very diner that Cas (along with Sam and Dean) are meeting with Ishim, they realize they know her. She seems to have some kind of issue with the angels, as she only goes after them and tells the brothers that she doesn't have any problems with humans. The brothers make the angels fess up to what happened, in order to better try to solve the problem. Turns out, Lily was alive back in the early 1900s, in a relationship with an angel, who fathered her child. Since Nephilim are prohibited, the group of angels came to take care of it. Now Ishim believes she is using some kind of demon deal or something to stay alive and have these powers. Because, you know, angel powers don't really work on her.

Sam and Dean go off to reason with her, since they're human and she's human and they can explain that the angels have changed now, ie they care more about people. Things aren't quite so simple, though, because she tells them what really happened. Her daughter was not a Nephilim, she'd had her before the relationship with the angel. She was only with that angel because she was trying to protect herself from Ishim. See, she was the foremost human expert on angels, and figured out how to summon one, which turned out to be Ishim. He became obsessed with her, and she could only get away from him by having this other angel dude come, or something. Anyway, Ishim got pissed and made up the story about the kid in order to get revenge on her - to break her heart the way she had broken his.
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Misha Collins as Castiel, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x10 "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets"
Dean goes back to tell Castiel the truth while Sam stays and hangs out with Lily, who informs him that she's not using dark magic, but rather figured out how to use angel magic, though it does slowly consume her soul the more she uses it. Sam knows a bit about being soulless, and soon realizes she's just kind of hanging around waiting for Ishim to kill Dean so Sam will be on her side. Not so fast, lady!

Indeed, Ishim is trying to kill Dean, and Castiel isn't much help in preventing that, as he used a lot of his energy to heal Ishim from Lily's earlier attack. Luckily, Sam and Lily show up just in time. She uses this special eye orb thing to angel light him long enough for Cas to stab him with the angel blade. He also apologizes for his earlier ignorance and understands if she still wants to go after him.

She puts away her revenge, at least for now, while the boys head back to the bunker to drink and contemplate whether they should actually kill the spawn of the devil or not.

Random Thoughts:

- How much do we wanna bet that using angel magic is going to come back up somehow? Also, how did no one know that was possible before? It seemed like the angels were completely unaware of it as well.

- Also, would using that much angel juice there at the end not have used up the rest of Lily's soul? We know what happens when people don't have souls. It's not pretty.

- The title of this episode is much more flip than the tone of the episode itself. Odd choice.

Quotes:

Sam: I don't think we have the kind of mom that's going to stay home and make chicken soup for dinner.

Castiel: You know what I like about him. He's sarcastic, but he's thoughtful and appreciative too.

Sam: And you're gonna storm in, right.....now.

Castiel: These are my friends. My friends who don't listen very well.

Lily: Patience is a talent. You'd be amazed what a person can do with a little bit of purpose and an abundance of time.

Supernatural 12x09 "First Blood"

The hiatus has come and gone, and the world has become all too depressing in the last week. I don't talk politics on here, but suffice to say, I am deeply concerned right now. Anyway, as you may remember from before the hiatus, the boys got arrested for trying to kill the president. You know, the president as possessed by Lucifer. Can the Winchesters come save us?
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x09 "First Blood"
And now this week's episode... The brothers Winchester have been taken by some government spooks, put away in some high security prison place that appears to be off the map in one way or another. Their captors are intent on making them talk, but please. These guys have been tortured in literal Hell. We all know they're not going to talk. But how are they going to get out?

That's a tough one, because Castiel and Mary have not a clue where they could be. Instead, they appear to be a bit aimless during the time that the boys are gone. Cas tries to hunt, but is terrible at it. Mary hunts, and is good at it. Yada yada.

But, what's this? One day while delivering their food, a guard discovers that both Sam and Dean are *gasp* dead! They take them to the coroner and of course in a bit they pop back alive. They escape from the building really easily, even though you'd think there would be a bunch of cameras watching everything, but okay! They call up Cas for help, and ask him to meet them on Route 34... somewhere. That's descriptive! He calls up Mary to join in, but they both realize they're going to need more help when they have no idea where to pick them up, and no idea what they're walking into. In the end, they call up the British Men of Letters, who graciously agree to help. Did I say graciously? More like smugly.

Misha Collins as Castiel and Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester in Supernatural 12x09 "First Blood"Anywayz, the boys are on in the wilds of Colorado and make some mention of something happening at midnight, but no time to talk about that now! They've got troops to outsmart! And outsmart them, they do. They wait until night to take them on, and quite swiftly take down the whole team. Don't worry, they don't kill any of them. When they walk out of the woods - why Cas and Mary are there waiting, along with Mick and Mr. Ketch. The Brits think they've been sloppy, so you know that means they're going to go kill all of those people. Lovely.

While driving their way out of there, the car sputters to a stop. Who should show up but Billie. Oh yes, the boys made a deal with her to make them appear dead for a bit to get them out of jail, and then one of them would go with her willingly at midnight. Or, you know, a Winchester. Because the wording is important, since Mary steps up and says she'll do it instead. Billie is ready to accept, but then Castiel steps in with an angel blade and stabs her. So now that works on Reapers as well? So many wavy rules. Basically, he doesn't want any Winchesters to die because he lurves them too much, oh and they happen to save people a whole lot. Just that.

Random Thoughts:

- Though the beginning was devoid of much emotion with the brothers, that Dean thinks the food is okay but Sam thinks it's gross is a small little nugget of fun.

- As soon as they said a Winchester had to go, I said out loud "oh please you know it's going to be Mary." At least they twisted that a little bit. That would've been a stupid way for her to go.

- Apparently it's Mr. Ketch, not Mr. Catch. Thanks, IMDB.

Quotes:

Crowley: Sam and Dean, they're like Herpes. Just when you think they're gone, Hello! The boys are back.

Dean: I've been better. I've been worse.

Mary: Seatbelt on. I drive fast.

Mick: You're surly, suspicious. You don't trust others.
Castiel: Well that is accurate.

Dean: We're not trapped out here with you. You're trapped out here with us.

Camp: Who are you?
Sam: We're the guys who save the world.

Supernatural 12x08 "LOTUS"

Was it just me, or did this episode feel super long for some reason? Well, it might be just me. I have a terrible cold right now! Like, I could hardly sleep last night because I had such a terrible sinus headache bad. So much fun!

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Misha Collins as Castiel, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 12x08 "LOTUS"As you may remember from the previous episode, Lucifer revealed he had... plans? Okay. Some sort of vague big plans. Which turn out to include possessing a big philanthropist followed by an archbishop. The boys, plus Castiel and Crowley, find this trail, but aren't sure who he could be heading to next, only that he's upping his game from regular joes to big-time people.

Enter President Jefferson Rooney aka David Chisum! Who, thankfully, is a much better actor than Rick Springfield. Lucifer must spin him some yarn about how he can help make the world a better place with him together, though I find it hard to believe that a true religious person as Jeff is made out to be would actually believe such things. Nonetheless, he accepts Lucifer and promptly kills one of his guards for butting in on a self-talk session.

That unnatural death is what ultimately leads the boys to figure out who he's possessing, thanks to a member of his team being on Crowley's soulroll (you know, payroll, but for souls. You get it.). Problem is, while they may know who Lucifer is possessing, that doesn't make it any easier to get close to him. You know, Secret Service and all kinds of other security and all. Still, Crowley heads off to recruit Rowena for backup in taking Lucifer down again.

Mark Sheppard as Crowley in Supernatural 12x08 "LOTUS"Lucifer has other ideas, though, as he tells his secret service that there are some fanatics on their way to assassinate him - you know, the Winchesters. The secret service tracks them down and they all get into some fisticuffs, but then wouldn't you know it, Mr. Catch shows up to save the day. You see, Sam tried calling up the British Men of Letters earlier on to possibly help with the Lucifer situation, but he never actually talked to anyone. That doesn't stop Mr. Catch from showing up. And guess what! He has some special device that can expel angels from their hosted bodies! What luck!

Meanwhile, Castiel hears a big hit on angel radio - a Nephilim has been conceived - you know, a child of an angel and a human. Turns out, President Jeff was getting it on with one of his aides, Kelly, and Lucifer decided he'd like to create a little somethin' somethin' with her. The boys are able to use this to their advantage, by being able to lure Lucifer to where they are by kidnapping Kelly.

He shows up, and the egg angel-expeller works! Well, with some apparent help from Rowena. Would it have worked on its own otherwise, who knows? Lucifer is expelled from the President's body, leaving him alive. Crowley and Rowena pop away, Castiel takes Kelly out a back entrance, but the boys remain with the President for who knows why, only to be arrested by the secret service for an attempted assassination.

And, even though Kelly knows that her child is the son of the devil, she doesn't want to have the pregnancy terminated, so she escapes from Castiel all too easily. Castiel, come on.

Well, that's it for awhile - the show doesn't return until January 26. So, until then, wish this terrible cold adieu!

Random Thoughts:

- I honestly can't even think straight enough right now to come up with random thoughts. Hit the comments with your own, if you have some!

Quotes:

Lucifer: It's almost like I've never done that before.

Sam: Can we get the info without all the drama?
Crowley: Can I get you without the flannel? No, and still I endure.

Rowena: That is the sweetest thing you've ever done for me.

Dean: Lucifer? I didn't know he was dating.

Kelly: Oh, God.
Castiel: Actually, he left.
