Supernatural: Top 5 Season Eleven Episodes

Did you know the summer is nearly over? Where in the world has it gone? Time just seems to be moving faster and faster lately. Except when you’re watching the Olympics and want a certain even to just be on already and for them to quit with the teasing, then it does move at a molasses-like pace.

But I digress. The end of the summer means the return of fall TV. Of course, the CW likes to hold off their shows until October, with Supernatural being no exception. What else does the CW like to do when it comes to Supernatural? Move it to another night! That’s right, Supes will be back on Thursdays this upcoming season, starting October 13.

I gotta be honest, I think about quitting every season. It’s not the same show it used to be for me, and I feel like I make fun of it more than I enjoy it anymore, which is sad. But I guess if people enjoy my somewhat snarky take, then I will soldier on.

Before we get to season 12, though, let’s take a quick look back at the top episodes of this past season – season 11. I will say season 11 was one of the better ones of the back half of the series, so it was somewhat harder to pick the best episodes than it has been. Well, except for #1, because we all know what #1 is before I even get to it.

Each title is a link to a scene from the episode.

Supernatural 11x16 "Safe House"

I was skeptical of this episode at first, as I am any revisiting of certain dead characters. But thankfully this was more of a flashback episode than a resurrection one. It was paced well and did a good job jumping between the present day and the past, and tying it all together. Enjoyable.

Supernatural 11x17 "Red Meat"

Though I mentioned above that season 11 was a better season overall than some of the others, that doesn’t mean I really enjoyed the main mytharc of the season. Rather, I enjoyed the standalone episodes quite a lot more, which is a huge turnaround from the first seasons. This was one such standalone, which stood out because of the way it messed with the normal Supernatural episode format.

Supernatural 11x12 "Don't You Forget About Me"

I will always love Jody, and this episode featuring her and the two girls dealing with some teenage angst amid supernatural drama was a hit to me. I feel like some people don’t agree as much when it comes to this episode, but whatever, this is my list and I can say what I want! I just hope they don’t ever decide to kill Jody or Donna because they are seriously some of the only women to survive on this show.

Supernatural 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley"

Oh man. I have never been a proponent of Chuck as GAHHG, but whatever, it happened. And this episode made me like it much more than I thought I would. The way it was structured was great, and that song at the end? Awesome.

Supernatural 11x04 "Baby"

I mean, come on. You knew this was going to be the top episode of the season. The Impala has been as much a part of the family as Sam and Dean, so having this episode as sort of from the POV from the Impala herself was great. Not to mention the brotherly heart-to-hearts that felt truer than a lot of them have lately, just because of exhausting the same stuff over and over again. Anyway, yes, top episode of season 11, and will probably make it into the top 20 at least of the entire series.

Worst Episode of the Season: Beyond the Mat

That’s it for now! Are you looking forward to season 12 and the return of Mary, or are you as burnt out on this show as I am, that at this point it’s like, meh? And what were YOUR favorite episodes of season 11? Let me know in the comments!

Supernatural 11x23 "Alpha and Omega"

I suppose I was sort of right last week when I said they were going to do a slightly more subdued season finale in comparison to the episode leading up to it. Though this episode had action, it was much more about the power of words than straight up physical fisticuffs. Did I like it? Hmm. I'm not sure. But let's back up and go over what happened first, shall we?
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, in Supernatural 11x23 "Alpha and Omega"
Last time, the group came together to try to take down Amara, but she was like psha and hit Chuck with some killing blow thing that has resulted in the sun starting to dim. You know, because the light is going out of the universe. Sam is gung ho about finding another way to fix things, but everyone else is ready to throw in the towel. But this is Supernatural, so there's no throwing in the towel.

They can't cage Amara anymore, that won't do. The only thing left is to kill her. The only way to kill her is with a preponderance of light - basically the power of 10,000 suns or thereabouts. Well, ole GAHHG isn't quite feeling up to that task at the moment, but Cas does have a novel idea - what about souls? They're basically made of light, etc. But where to get such a hefty amount of souls?

Sam and Dean round some up at a nearby asylum that they've just ignored until now for reasons unknown. Though a couple dozen in comparison to the thousands needed seems rather paltry, but whatevs. Crowley isn't really able to get any demon souls because of Hell shenanigans, and Cas can't rally the angels because they're just ready to die with dignity. But luckily, our reaper friend Billie happened to be spying on the Winchesters, and she's down to corral some souls for the big Amara-killing bomb. Thing is, they need someone to get it close to her. So, like duh, they're going to send in Dean. With the souls inside of him. Therefore, yet another silly goodbye scene that we all know isn't going to amount to a real death for a Winchester, but whatever.

While the others visit a bar to wait out their time, Dean tries to talk some sense into Amara after she tells him she's not an idiot and can see all the souls inside of him. But, she's had a realization. She never really wanted to destroy all of the beautiful stuff her brother created, she was just jealous. You know how little kids get when they see their sibling doing something cool that they weren't part of. Smash boom! She spirits her brother over and they reconcile, aw shucks. So, rather than everything going kaput by the complete lack of darkness and light, they're going to go off together to dance in the cosmos and relish in their powers, or something. But not before Amara tells Dean she's going to give him what he's always wanted. Now what could that be?
Emily Swallow as Amara, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x23 "Alpha and Omega"
Meanwhile, in England, some lady is given a lot of screentime. She has a secret timeline and map and all kinds of stalkery things about the Winchesters, and appears to be heading off to Kansas to find them. Which, well, she finds Sam and Cas, there at the end. They think Dean has died, the jokers. She angel sigils Cas away, and basically tells Sam that the Men of Letters, London Chapter, are quite upset at what they've been up to, and they want to bring him in. We're supposed to think she's shot him, but they don't actually show it, so... sure.

Which leaves the final scene with Dean, getting what he's always wanted. A quick aside here, my boyfriend piped up in the background when Amara said that, "What, they're going to bring the dad back?" And I thought to myself, no, it wouldn't be the dad. It would be... the mom! Well, duh, they only visited her grave a few minutes ago in the episode too. That's right, Mary Winchester is back. Dun dun dun!

Random Thoughts:

- It was painfully obvious they were setting up that girl to be some kind of antagonist for next season. Man oh man. I'm not sure how the Men of Letters are going to be the "big bad" of next season, but maybe they'll try something new on the show and not go for the whole big bad scenario quite as gung ho.

- It was neither confirmed nor denied whether Lucifer was dead or alive. So he's probably alive somewhere, all incorporeal and whatnot.

- They definitely left the door open for Chuck and/or Amara to make a reappearance at some point. I mean, really, they couldn't have killed them with the whole balance scenario they had set up, because it wouldn't have made sense for the world to keep on ticking if they were both gone either.

- What does it mean for Mary to be back? That's way more interesting than the Men of Letters crappola. What will she think of what's happened? We've never really seen their dynamic other than in dream sequences or with young Mary, so hey, this is one return from the death I'm not as crazy annoyed by.

- That's all she wrote for season 11. My goodness. I can't believe how long this show has been on!

Quotes:

Chuck: You know how when you're driving, and a bug hits your windshield? I'm the bug.

Rowena: So that was a gun in your pocket.

Chuck: I didn't know dogs had breakfast.
Dean: Cas is back.

Dean: No chick flick moments, come on.
Sam: Yeah, you love chick flicks.
Dean: You're right, I do.

Supernatural 11x22 "We Happy Few"

Well, that was a little... anti-climactic. Funny, I was thinking to myself, they're going to do this big battle against Amara, what does that leave for the final episode? Are they going Buffy on us and doing something off beat? Not quite, not quite. But let's get to that in a sec.

Recap/review of Supernatural 11x22 "We Happy Few" by freshfromthe.com.So, after last week, Lucifer is hanging out in the bunker, none too happy with Chuck aka his dad. He just wants an apology for being thrown into Hell. You know, nothing big. But Chuck doesn't want to go there, insisting he did the right thing, what he had to do. Luckily, the Winchesters are there to help mediate the situation. Or, sort of. Dean basically says that apologies don't have to actually mean anything, but of course that's the whole point. Lucifer wants to feel like his dad felt remorse for what happened. In the end, Chuck does admit to that, and that Lucifer was his favorite, when he wasn't supposed to have favorites.

What does that mean for the fight to come? Well, it wasn't just Lucifer on Team God back in the old days - it was also all of the other Archangels, but they are currently either dead or stuck down in a Hell cage, and it would take too long for him to bring them back. That leaves a backup plan - to get help from various factions - the demons, the angels, and the witches. Dean heads off to convince Crowley, while Lucifer, with a tagteam from Castiel, recruits the angels, leaving Sam to work on Rowena and her witch friend(s).

Of course, in the end everyone comes together. Their plan - lure Amara into a trap. So they do. Rowena, with the help of some witches, blasts Amara with a spell. The angels blast down from Heaven with their white light power, and then the demons join in with their black smoke to weaken her. Which, they do. That leaves Lucifer to stab her with, I'm assuming, a magical blade of some sort. Now it's GAHHG's turn, right? He's going to kill her, right?
Recap/review of Supernatural 11x22 "We Happy Few" by freshfromthe.com.
Well, no. You see, ole Chuck doesn't want to kill her. He wants to trap her back in the box. There's a whole speech about yin and yang and how they have to both exist for the balance of the world. Dean is rather unconvinced of that truth, and would rather they just kill her, but that has to do with his weird bond, blah blah who cares. But, in order to trap her again, they have to transfer the Mark of Cain as a sort of seal. Sam agrees to take it, even though that seems stupid because obviously they'd just end up back where they started if they removed it again. But it doesn't really matter, because as soon as Amara can sense that her bro is trying to trap her again, even after he apologizes to her and all, she gets super mad and blasts him with her dark powers. But first she kills Lucifer. Forgot to mention that bit. At least, it seems like she kills him, right? Castiel? We'll find out next week, I'm sure.

Which basically leaves Chuck slowly dying, so she can destroy his world while he's still alive to watch it disappear. So, Darkness still not defeated. Ba dum bum.

Random Thoughts:

- That music at the very end felt weird and long and just overall strange. That was a drawn out beat if ever I saw one.

- It seems like we're heading to an end game of Amara and Chuck dying together and canceling each other out. What that means for the world, who knows?

- The preview for next week kind of confirmed it, but it seems also like Dean is going to be the key somehow to getting Amara to stop, thanks to their weirdo bond. After all, she did look wistful when she saw that photo of little Dean with Mary.

- Only one more week left this season. What are your hopes for next season?

Quotes:

Chuck: Kids, huh?

Dean: Worst episode of Full House ever.

Sam: We all know that you are...God. Can you be a little less... Lordly?
Chuck: But... I am the Lord.

Dean: You smell like a dumpster inside a liquor bar.

Supernatural 11x21 "All in the Family"

The whole Amara/Darkness of it all this season has been a bit lackluster, BUT I have surprisingly liked this re-introduction of Chuck/GAHHG. Does that mean I like the Darkness stuff now? Not really, but whatever. Maybe I just like Rob Benedict.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Curtis Armstrong as Metatron, Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural 11x21 "All in the Family"Anyway, this episode picks up right where the last one left off, with the brothers Winchester in the street with the big kahuna. He whisks them back to the bunker to chat, wherein Dean basically calls him out for leaving his creation alone for so long, and he says intervening all the time didn't really do anything in the end, it was just enabling (an argument against helicopter parenting?). It's still a bit of an impasse, though, because things on Earth haven't really improved much even after he stopped punishing and saving and all that.

Which does sort of beg the question - why intervene now? Well, we'll get to that, I suppose. To be honest, not a lot in the way of action happens in this episode, it's very philosophical in a lot of ways, but I quite enjoyed that aspect. We got to see Kevin very briefly, for example, as a way for Chuck to give the Winchesters proof of who he really is. And get to hear Sam babble a bit, wondering what's up with ears and the planets, but never getting any real answers other than Chuck likes to take long showers and sing old show tunes.

Regardless, some action DOES take place. For example, Metatron gets wind that Sam and Dean have met up with Chuck, and wants to meet with them. They're reluctant, but agree, and he shows them the book Chuck was working on - basically a suicide note rather than an autobiography. He's going to sacrifice himself to Amara. Dean confronts him about this, and he clarifies that yes, he's going to do that, and she'll leave them alone once he does because her beef is with him and not his creation. Well, not so sure about THAT, but okay.

Rob Benedict as Chuck Shurley in Supernatural 11x21 "All in the Family"In another town ravaged by the Amara fog sickness, a new prophet is chosen. The brothers track him down (why not a female prophet, hmm?), and give him the lowdown on what's going on, but he's really there to help them track down where Amara is, so that they can free Casifer. Because the last time Chuck was able to get rid of Amara, it was only with the help of Lucifer. So, they figure if he's around to help again, maybe they can get the ole team back together and etc. While Sam, Metatron and the prophet Donatello work on freeing Casifer, Dean is chatting up Amara to distract her. She wants him to become part of her and leave this mortal coil. Yes, become PART of her. Not just, like, go away with her, but become part of her being or something. Dean's like yeah... probably no.

Metatron stays behind to bide them some time to get away with Casifer, but that time proves quite short as Amara just dark swirls him into nothingness. She's about to do something similar to the others before Chuck bops them back to the bunker. He heals up Lucifer, and they stare at each other all disdainfully (and longingly, I might add), because no one is without their daddy issues on this show.

What does it all mean for defeating Amara? We've got two more episodes to find out.

Random Thoughts:

- It does seem a little like things are going to end with Chuck and Amara kind of canceling each other out and going kaboom, but who knows. What that would mean going forward for Heaven and Hell and all that, I could see them exploring in the future. Although it does seem like we've been down that road in other ways already, so maybe not.

- I didn't get all of the fun quotes below; this episode was quite chock full of them, really. Even when dealing with big issues, I like when they keep things a bit lighter.

- How the heck does Jensen keep looking better with age? My goodness. Ahem. Sorry. Not that Jared doesn't too, it just struck me in that forest scene with Jensen.

- For anyone who wants the song from last week sang by Rob Benedict, you can download it: HERE.

Quotes:

Kevin: I always trusted you.
Dean: Yeah, that ended well.

Dean: Holy crap.

Chuck: I know you had a complicated upbringing, Dean. But don't confuse me with your dad.

Chuck: So, no. Thus spake the Lord.

Donatello: Call me Donatello. I'm named after him.
Dean: The... mutant ninja turtle?
Donatello: The Renaissance sculptor.

Donatello: Wow, I so miss being an Atheist.

Supernatural 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley"

Oh, GAHHG. Obviously the show has been hinting at this reveal of sorts for quite some time. Seasons, really. But, finally, they have confirmed it - Chuck is actually GAHHG. I know some people like that whole idea, but I was never a big fan of it, mostly because it felt like it cheapened his character, who I really liked back in the day. At the same time, it wouldn't really work to make it someone else after all of the rampant speculation over the years, so whatever. Moving on.
Rob Benedict as Chuck Shurley in Supernatural 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley"

I'm just going to call him Chuck for the purposes of this here review thingamajig, though. So, yes. I'm not really giving things away by talking about the whole GAHHG reveal, because it happens pretty much at the top of the episode with a destitute Metatron searching dumpsters for specks of food being whisked away to meet with ole Chuck.

Now, a lot of the episode is spent with these two just sort of talking. And while normally that could be boring, in this case, it really wasn't. Metatron was the voice of humanity (as well as the fans) in questioning what Chuck has been up to, why he hasn't intervened, etc. He basically calls him out on leaving his creation to succumb to Amara (which apparently wouldn't be the first time), which finally seems to get his attention.

Meanwhile, back in the Earthly realm, the Winchesters follow up on a case that might prove to have Amara connections, and indeed it does. Even though I would say such a case of a murder-suicide out of nowhere seems to happen in regular life as well. But anywayz, they head to the apropos Hope Springs, where Amara is sending her death fog to overtake the town, so they go on a murderous spree. But not Dean. Even though Sam gets to be infected by the fog, Amara is all smitten with her dear Dean, and keeps him safe from said death fog.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley"Really, though, it all turns out okay, because Metatron, as I said, finally seemed to get through to Chuck. That it is, in fact, his responsibility to save his creations from his sister rather than let it all disappear, so he does some magic and revives the town, including the erstwhile Sammy.

And, in another bit of meta fan service, they bring back the amulet from seasons past. You know, the one Sam gave Dean when they were kids, that turned out to be some kind of GAHHG beacon, but Dean threw it away, etc. etc.? Who am I kidding, if you watch the show, you know what the damn amulet is. Anyhow, Chuck sticks that little baby in Sam's pocket, and the boys follow its light to where he stands in the street.

And.... episode. There are a few more episodes left this season, and by the nature of that song Chuck sang there at the end, it seems as though GAHHG may go out in a blaze of glory with his sister at his side. What does that mean for the future? Who knows. They only seem to beget worse things every year, but it might be more interesting to not end things on a cliffhanger for once. Not that they've ever done that, but what the heck. It might've made for a nice series closer.

Alas. It goes on. And probably on and on.

Random Thoughts:

- Sooo many inside jokes. I do appreciate that sort of meta, when only longtime fans of the show will get it.

- I really liked the song at the end. Is that an existing song, or was it written for the show? Either way, Rob Benedict did a great job with it.

- One of the only episodes where Metatron wasn't overly annoying. Perhaps because he was kind of the voice of the people in many ways.

- It does beg the question, if GAHHG and Amara are brother and sister, do they have parents? And just what the heck does that entail?

Quotes:

Metatron: Yeah, Toto. I got a feeling we're not on Earth anymore, either.

Sam: Dude, quit ironing my shirts with beer!

Chuck: Started a new series of books. Revolution! But I don't think it's going anywhere.
Metatron: Maybe titles aren't your thing.

Metatron: You are neither grounded nor a person.
Chuck: So you're saying I'm likable.

Chuck: Nature, divine. Human nature, toxic.

Supernatural 11x19 "The Chitters"

After a couple weeks off, Supernatural is back with a, well, I'll just say it, a pretty boring episode. Man was there a lot of talking. Talking talking talking. Plus some more talking. And not about very interesting stuff, to be honest. But oh well, let's get on with it...

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester & Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x19 "The Chitters"Back in 1989, a kid was abducted by some weird creature while his younger brother watched. A hunter in the making? Why, you would be right! Young Jesse will show up later, as one would expect. But before that, in the present day, some people start going missing. Well, one girl only kind of goes missing, only to turn back up with bright green eyes and making weird chittery noises, and just generally looking monstrous and creepster.

The brothers, at their wits end after losing Casifer to Amara, decide to follow up on this case of missing people. Basically, every 27 years a bunch of people go missing, or show up with these green eyes acting all horny and strange before going missing. While investigating, Dean happens to be attacked by one such creature, and is saved from being bitten by Jesse and his hunting partner Cesar. Only Cesar is not only his hunting partner, he's also his life partner. Not that it really matters, but okay.

Hugo Ateo as Cesar Cuevas, Lee Rumohr as Jesse Cuevas, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 11x19 "The Chitters"So, they team up. Dean and Cesar go in search of the burrow of the creatures in the forest while Sam and Jesse go to find the sheriff who was in charge back in the day. I'm not sure why, but apparently they think he might know something? Sure. Anyway, the creatures in question are these cicada spirit creatures that turn up and mate every 27 years, then go back underground and die and the cycle continues. But the original one has to inhabit a human body or something? Whatever. Let's be honest, I don't really care about these creatures very much.

Dean and Cesar find the burrow pretty easily, even though Jesse and Cesar had been trying to find it for days with no luck. Most of the people are already dead, or harboring the womb creatures, blah blah. Sam and Jesse confront the sheriff and he confesses his daughter was one of them, so that's why he didn't do anything about it? Or something. Whatever. I don't see the point of them going to that guy in the first place.

Nonetheless, Jesse gets to have his closure with the things that took his brother. And, honestly, pretty easily so, in the scope of Supernatural episodes. They barely had to fight the things or investigate them. But the real point of the episode came at the end, when the Winchesters thought maybe they should recruit the guys to help them in their big Darkness fight. But when they revealed they were hanging their hats up to go, like, raise some horses and such, Dean decided it was better to let them have their happily ever after.

Random Thoughts:

- The message of this episode may have had more impact some seasons ago when the brothers were wondering whether they could have a life after hunting. It seems like they've pretty much decided they're going to do it until they die (for realsies) at this point, so it didn't have many parallels to their current situation.

- I was hoping this episode would be another surprise highlight of the season, as most of them not featuring the main storyline have been. Alas, I was pretty bored. Was I the only one?

- I feel like Dean would've come up with some kind of garage situation for the impala at the bunker place by now, no?

Quotes:

Dean: Sleeping is the new smoking.
Sam: What? No it's not. Sitting. Sitting is the new smoking.
Dean: That can't be right.

Dean: A trippin' trip.

Sam: We're not actually gonna go with junkless on this one, are we? That's a new low, even for us.

Sheriff: What is this, Spanish fly gone bad?

Supernatural 11x18 "Hell's Angel"

Recap/review of Supernatural 11x18 "Hell's Angel" by freshfromthe.comGuess who's back, back again, Rowena's back, tell a friend. What's that? We've resurrected a character thought dead once again? Just another Wednesday on Supernatural! Yes, apparently the good witch Rowena had secretly concealed some spell inside herself to save her from death, and she's been hiding out all this time, basically trying to decipher who might win the big fight. She's chosen Amara, and has been helping her regain her strength, so she can be on the "right" side, blah blah. Of course, when Amara shows her true powers and expels a bunch of smoke up into Heaven, Ro's a little like hmm well that's a bit scary, maybe not.

Meanwhile, Crowley has been able to easily find one of the Hands of God now that they're looking for them, and in a terrible bit of CGI, heads to the desert to get it. He calls up the Winchesters, wanting to work together to get Lucifer back in the cage using said Horn of Joshua as bait/leverage. Half the episode is then spent in a warehouse where he argues with Sam and Dean about the proper timeline they should follow. No, really, it felt like a long ass amount of arguing.

And, in Heaven, Casifer has stopped by to say hello and basically try to get the angels on his side. Really I think he's just there so he's around when Amara throws her weight around, so he can further the angel fear of her power.

Back in the warehouse of relentless arguing, Rowena makes herself known, and they form some kind of plan to trap Lucifer and get Castiel to expel him so they can then send him back into the cage. It works okay at first, until they get to the part where Dean tries to convince Cas to actually do the expelling. Crowley smokes out of his body and into Cas' to try to talk to him on the inside, but Cas is all la la la let me watch my shows and pretend it's all okay. The Winchesters exorcise Crowley back out of Cas' body, but the wards are wearing off, so Casifer takes the horn and is ready to kill the Winchesters, but...

Recap/review of Supernatural 11x18 "Hell's Angel" by freshfromthe.comYep, Amara shows up. She says she was tracking Rowena, but I think really she was like "oh no, Dean could die, gotta save my lovey dove." Casifer then activates the horn, even though I thought merely touching said hands of GAHHG activated them, but what do I know, I only pay attention to the rules sometimes. He goes all smitey MacGee, but lo! Amara is not smitten! Or would that be smote? Grammar! Instead, she takes Casifer off to the other abandoned warehouse (lots of warehouses here) she's been using, which Rowena knows the location of, so seems kind of dumb to do, but WHATEVER DARKNESS.

The good lady Amara thinks that perhaps, just maybe big bro GAHHG will take interest and show up if she preys upon his very first creation, his once most beloved. Casifer is not so sure she understands his great disinterest, but we all must know by now that the great GAHHG will have to show up by the end of the season or all will be bunk. Nonetheless, she gets to torturing him, or something, whatever it is that makes him go all light-y up inside.

Back at their humble abode, the Winchesters are wondering just what in tarnation they can do next if the Hand thing didn't work. Dean surmises that perhaps because Lucifer is not actually chosen by GAHHG, then he can't be strong enough to use the Hand to do the smiting of Amara. O-kay. Who the heck would be such a chosen being, then? Dun dun dun.

Random Thoughts:

- No but really, that CGI bit in the beginning felt like a different show. So strange, I actually laughed out loud and said "What?"

- All joking aside, this season has been one of the better ones in the back half of this show. I like that they actually did the whole hand of god/Lucifer try out now rather than drawing that out some more. Nice little twist there.

- What do we all think of the return of Rowena? Was her return planned all along, or no? On the one hand, maybe, on the other, I feel like we would've been given a hint if she'd done something like that so it didn't come out of nowhere if it was really a plan all along. Personally I find her annoying most of the time, as she doesn't really seem to care about anything but her own skin, but okay. She's back. Okay.

- The real question is - if GAHHG does show up, which it seems like he must, will it be in the form of everyone's favorite prophet, Chuck? I never liked the idea of Chuck secretly being God, even if others do. So, blah to that. But I guess we'll find out soon enough. Only a handful of episodes left this season.

Quotes:

Dean: Nice digs. What, the crypt keeper out of town?

Crowley: Did I say this would be easy? No, I did not.

Casifer: It's not like he invented the Prius, which actually works.

Casifer: Hey, if it makes you comfy, you can call me God.

Casifer: You know what they say, he who hesitates, disintegrates.

Supernatural 11x17 "Red Meat"

Again we have a nice diversion from the main arc of the season, and again I like it better than any of the episodes dealing with said arc. This seems to be becoming a theme for me. But I do enjoy when Supernatural decides to take a classic episode and turn a little twist on it. This time around, they did the thing that's become a bit of a trope - starting in the middle of the action, then flashing back to some hours later to show how they got there. Man does that annoy me, it's done so often.
Recap/review of Supernatural 11x17 "Red Meat" by freshfromthe.com.
The case of the week was something of a run of the mill werewolf case, so thankfully we didn't actually have to spend that much time in the flashbacks to how they got there. Basically, they hunted down some werewolves who'd trapped a couple people, fighting ensued, and Sam got shot in the stomach! What's this, one of them actually getting shot?! Even worse, while Dean is off, like, protecting or something, the dude they saved tells Sam he's slowing them down and proceeds to choke him to death! Say what.

Of course, no one sees him do this, so after Dean has a moment to be like "what, Sam, no" they are forced to run off because of the werewolves, leaving poor Sammy there all dead on the floor. They manage to flag down a state trooper rather conveniently, but instead of Dean being able to drop off the couple and go back to Sam, he gets a taser in the back for his troubles.

When he comes to, he's not too happy. Michelle, the female half of the couple, is all apologetic and on his side, and something she says reminds him that maybe he can try to talk to a reaper to get Sam back. So he gets the brilliant idea to down a bunch of pills to essentially "die" and talk to said reaper, who is of course Billie. BUT! MEANWHILE! Sam magically awakens back in the forest, not dead after all! Time to go full Revenant, Sam, you can do it. Because despite massively bleeding from the gut, Sam is able to take down the two werewolves who have come back to find him. What did I say? Full Revenant.
Recap/review of Supernatural 11x17 "Red Meat" by freshfromthe.com.
Anywayz, back at the hospital, Dean chats with Billie, who's all like psych Sam's not even dead, yo! You just wasted your life! Luckily, however, the doctor brings him back before he actually dies. He tries to leave to find Sam, but it turns out that Corbin, the male killer half of that couple, had been bitten by one of the werewolves, and starts transforming then and there. Now, I get that the other two were purebreds, so they could transform whenever, but does that then translate to someone they bite? Because it seems like it shouldn't. But whatever, we fly fast and loose with the rules lately on this show anyway. Dean is about to get his own self choked to death when Sam saves the day, killing his third werewolf of the day while bleeding out of the gut and near death.

Later, Sam wants to know what Dean did after thinking he was dead, and Dean is all like "oh nothing, I knew you weren't really dead." Which Sam totally believes. Not!

Random Thoughts:

- Next week is back to the stupid Darkness plot. Blah blah and weep weep.

- This episode felt super short to me, but then I was only half paying attention before the first commercial break, so maybe that was just my perception. Interesting combo of werewolves and Reapers.

- I was going to be kind of annoyed if they killed one of them only to bring them back again, but luckily they side-stepped that a little bit by making Sam only "mostly" dead. Though it seems like Dean was also "mostly" dead, so why didn't Sam also get a visit from Billie the Reaper, eh?

Quotes:

Sam: You know we always talk about taking a break, going camping. This could be our camping. Could be fun.
Dean: Yeah, which part? Freezing our nuts off in the middle of the woods on a thin lead?

Michelle: How exactly do you talk to an evil scary death machine?
Dean: Easy. I die.

Billie: Time to say bye bye to Luigi, Mario.

Billie: Trust me, if the Big W bit it, I'd get a call.

Supernatural 11x16 "Safe House"

Well, my friends, it's been a fair few weeks since the last Supernatural episode, and since my last blog post. Whoops. Lots of life stuff was happening (new job, moving), so my baking posts unfortunately took a hit. Hopefully back at it soon! Also news: Supernatural, along with every other CW show, was renewed for another season. Yay/nay? I'm not sure anymore, but such is life.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester & Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 11x16 "Safe House"This week's return episode was actually a lot of fun. I get annoyed when the show brings back dead characters too often, but this was definitely an exception. Because it wasn't really bringing someone back, but rather featuring a flashback that had a nice little twist at the end. Let's just get the cat out of the bag now - we get to see Bobby and Rufus bantering/bickering again, so that's automatically a treat.

On to the episode and the case of the week/half decade. After feeling cold spots and seeing flickering lights in her room, a little girl is grabbed and dragged offscreen. Her mom finds her in a coma, unable to be awoken. The brothers find this case, and soon find that a pair of other hunters had been investigating the very same house about five years previously. What a coincidence! But we'll forgive that, because it's fun.

At first they think they must be dealing with a classic ghost situation, but after discovering that Bobby and Rufus had already burned some bones back in the day, they have to rule that out. Also ruled out? The Bacco Rufus thinks the creature may be. While the boys look into the people that were taken comatose the first time around, Bobby thinks he's figured out what the thing really is - a Soul Eater. The Soul Eater essentially traps a person's soul in this nest that exists in another dimension outside of time. It keeps the souls there for, essentially, eternity while it continues to feed, or something. Bobby knows of a symbol to trap it from a previous encounter with another one, but the Winchester discover, thanks to the Men of Letters, that there is actually a way to kill it rather than just trap it.

Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer in Supernatural 11x16 "Safe House"The way to kill it? The both have to paint the symbol in the house - only one person has to do it from inside the nest. Dean draws the short straw this time around, and lets the monster take him to the other side. Back years ago, Bobby also gets taken by the soul eater while Rufus works on completing their symbol on the wall. That gets complicated when the soul eater is able to kind of possess Bobby's body to try to get Rufus to stop. Which we all know means Dean also gets possessed and bashes around Sam a bit.

However, the hunters prevail. Rufus paints his trap, Sam paints his symbol, and poof, evil soul eater is dunzo. And because that nest place exists in a kind of different plane, Dean and Bobby briefly see each other. And it was really only because the brothers completed that killing symbol that Bobby ever was released from the nest in the first place. Ah, time wimey stuff.

A fairly simple episode, but it was nice and definitely one of my favorite ones of the season so far.

Random Thoughts:

- Bobby got to say idjit(s) a whopping three times throughout this episode, unless I missed another one.

- Though Dean won the rock-paper-scissors fight recently, he went back to his losing streak, though we didn't get to see if it was because he played scissors first again.

- The people in the nest were super creepy with their blacked out mouths. Eep.

- Does anyone else not really care about this whole Darkness business? The problem is, we know they are somehow going to defeat it, because they always do, so it starts to lose some tension for me.

Quotes:

Bobby: Wait a minute, I'm supposed to be your friggin' back up?
Rufus: Yeah. If by backup you mean you do all the heavy lifting while I watch.

Dean: There's gotta be an easier way to dig graves.

Rufus: Oldest rule of hunting, Bobby, you can't save everyone.

Sam: My head hurts.
Dean: Let's get drunk and not think about this ever again.

Supernatural 11x15 "Beyond the Mat"

Here's the thing. Not once do I ever remember the Winchesters reminiscing about watching wrestling with their dad as kids. Sure, there's a lot of time we did not see with them growing up, but they acted like this was a somewhat big part of their lives as children, to the point where Sam's first crush was one of the managers of the shows? Okay, fine. Whatever.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x15 "Beyond the Mat"
In a weird turn of events, I was more intrigued by Crowley's storyline than anything else in this episode. So I'll start with that. Casifer has his minions on a mission to find another hand of GAHHG, he's generally rude to Crowley, making him lick the floor and such, which supposedly engenders some sympathy from some of the other demons. One such demon, Simmons, who was so adamantly in Casifer's pocket last episode, shows up to free Crowley, saying there are some people still on his side, yada yada.

They escape, and he takes her back to his secret lair where he has hidden some artifacts, one such artifact being a hand of GAHHG. Of course, Simmons was secretly working for Casifer this whole time. Luckily, however, Crowley was not an idiot and didn't believe she was really on his side. He activates the stick thing, tries to use its power to vanquish Casifer, but hits Simmons instead, sadly leaving the hand without any juice. Luckily, though, he manages to do the disappearing thing before Casifer can get him chained up again.

Meanwhile, the Winchesters are off paying their respects to some wrestler guy, only to stumble into a case, as is their wont, after a guest is killed at one of the matches. Someone has died at each of the places on the tour, so something must be afoot. Is it supernatural? Is that the show's name? Sam finds out that there was some symbol left on each body or crime scene, to be honest I wasn't paying attention, but it basically leads them to believe a demon is snatching up souls. Who could the demon be?
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x15 "Beyond the Mat"
Dean gives holy water laced tequila to a bunch of the wrestlers, but none of them flinch. Must be that annoying guy who left before he got there, right? Well, in a word, no. Instead, the demon turns out to be working with Dean's favorite wrestler Gunner, or rather, ordering around his favorite wrestler, who sold his soul to him, and in order to keep his stay on Earth extended rather than let the hellhounds take him down under, he's doing the demon's bidding.

Which inevitably leads to Dean being tossed around the room, trying to talk sense into Gunner, which eventually leads to Gunner stabbing ole demon in the back with the demon-killing knife. Bye bye demon, hello hellhounds. Alas, they were not able to save his soul, but mayhap they can save the world at large from that looming darkness, which is always looming and rarely around, apparently.

And we're off for a month. Yes, it's a mini hiatus until the end of March. Until then...

Random Thoughts:

- The "keep grinding" line there at the end reminded me of The Grinder. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but it was especially funny because I just watched an episode of that before this.

- How many of these hands of GAHHG are there, and why haven't they all been used up already if it's so easy to do so?

Quotes:

Sam: You realize you just literally described our jobs.

Dean: What, did he get in a tickle fight with Edward Scissorhands?

Dean: I think I hear my liver screaming at me.

Crowley: With all due respect Simmons, I don't think you can handle my rod.
Casifer: I bet I can. Is it just me, or is it getting a little phallic in here?

Supernatural 11x14 "The Vessel"

As far as the time travel episodes of Supernatural go, this one was...not my favorite. I mean, it was okay, but when you think back to when Dean first traveled back and met his young mom and dad, well, this one just can't compete. This time around, it's all about the Nazis again. I know there have been Nazis in at least one other episode.

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Misha Collins as Castiel/Lucifer in Supernatural 11x14 "The Vessel"Anyway, why Nazis, you wonder? Well, it turns out they found a Hand of God. No, not the Hand of God, or should I saw GAHHG, but a piece of one of the ancient things he blessed, or something. Only the last time anyone every heard of it, it was on a submarine that was sunk and never found during WWII. Well, that's a bitch.

Or is it? Dean has the bright idea of time travel, even though Sam rightly points out that Cas can't do that anymore. Of course, Casifer is a lot more powerful than Castiel. Casifer has taken up residence in Crowley's old joint, and the demons seem to be much happier to rally around him than their old master. Only he's not so happy about his current predicament - he wasn't able to bring Amara down alone the last time around, it was more of a team effort. Well, good thing the Winchesters call him up with this whole Hand of God business!

Sam, per usual, gets stuck in the present day, this time the reasoning being that Dean is more expendable than he is for this battle. Casifer is all "I'll watch over him, cackle cackle," but turns out the sub has been warded against supernatural beings, including the powerful archangel, so while he is able to get Dean on the ship, he is stuck in the present with Sam. He does find out all sorts of useful information, though, like a certain spell that requires said archangel powers and can get rid of sigils, or something. But in the end, he reveals himself to Sam after Sam says he can touch his soul for extra power. Aw, Sam, trying to be noble always biting you in the butt. At least that gets Castiel to resurface for a moment and tell Sam what happened.
Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Weronika Rosati as Delphine Seydoux in Supernatural 11x14 "The Vessel"
But, back in the submarine, Dean finds the French woman who has the special weapon on board. Long story short, they chat for a bit, he tells her that they're going to be shot by a German ship, and that they need to get rid of the wards for his angel to get him home. Problem is, the last ward is on her body, and the only way to get rid of it is to kill her. The German ship arrives just at this moment to start depth charging them and demanding the weapon, so Dauphine takes it upon herself to use the weapon to get rid of the wards and free Casifer to rescue Dean just before she basically explodes the submarine and kills the German ship above.

Casifer brings Dean back home, and Sam spills the beans about his inhabitant. Casifer is ready to take the weapon and kill the boys, but turns out the Hand was only good for a one time use, so it's dead. Sam is able to do that angel-expelling sigil on the wall and get rid of Casifer before he can kill them. But now can they really go back to the bunker anymore? I guess they can sigil it up, too.

Random Thoughts:

- The ending with Dean near tears seemed a little bit dramatic to me. He was with those people for like an hour? At least that's what it seemed like. It didn't strike me as such a touching experience, but whatever.

- At least they didn't drag it out any longer for Casifer hiding who he really is from the boys. While it was fun for a while, it would definitely get old quickly as he would be able to get so much information from them.

- My guess is they're going to find some other Hands of GAHHG somewhere and use them to defeat Amara, or use Casifer to defeat Amara. Whether they actually save Castiel in the process remains to be seen. I could see them finally killing him off, but then everyone loves Castiel so I don't know if they'd have the balls to actually do it. Not that anyone really stays dead forever on this show anyway, even when they should.

Quotes:

Dean: How is this more important than our coffee situation?

Sam: Be safe.
Dean: When am I not?

Casifer: Hello Castiel.

Casifer: This whole deep cover thing, it wasn't terribly well thought out.

Supernatural 11x13 "Love Hurts"

Supernatural has taken on holidays in the past, with their Christmas episode being one of my all-time favorites, and tonight's episode was another visit to Valentine's Day. But it wasn't about a cupid gone wrong or anything like that, but apparently the show's take on It Follows. Whoops, I'm giving some of the plot away! Oh well!

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 11x13 "Love Hurts"In a classic opening from the days of yore, a husband is cheating on his wife with the young babysitter. While she watches the baby, she gets her comeuppance in death by hand shoved through chest to retrieve still-beating heart. Yikes.

The boys catch wind of this suspicious death and head out to investigate. Husband acts rather skittish, so Dean gets him alone and he confesses to schtupping the sitter. And not just that, he stole the nanny cam that caught not just the kiss, but also the murder, on its little flash drive. Just who killed her? Oh my, the person looked just like the husband! But, he wasn't there... which means we must have a shapeshifter on our hands, right? They especially think so after the husband himself gets offed by what appears to be the already deceased babysitter. Dun dun dun!

The boys think it must be the wife, but she passes the silver test. What they don't see, though, is her frantically shoving some spell-making stuff into her garbage disposal before her husband-shifter shows up to kill her too. Luckily, she's not a complete wuss/idiot as some people on this show, and manages to get out of the place and go find Sam and Dean. Once she confesses what really happened - she got a spell from her hairdresser to make her husband love her again - they're able to figure out, well, not much, other than it appears that it's really a curse, and it gets passed from person to person with a kiss. The last person kissed is the first on the list, and once they're killed, it goes for the next, and the next, and so on.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 11x13 "Love Hurts"
It shows up there at the motel, so Dean quickly kisses the wife to take the curse on before they skedaddle out of there to the salon where the witchy hairdresser works. In more ways than one. She has a spell book in the basement that tells them exactly what they're fighting - a Qareen. Which is basically a shapeshifting killer thing that can only be killed by stabbing it in the heart, which is conveniently not in its body. Oh, and it takes on the guise of the cursed person's deepest desire. My, I wonder what Dean's could be?

Sam heads upstairs to look for the heart while Dean searches downstairs. Sam is luckier in the heart department, but before he can stab it, the witch shows up and tosses him around with some spells. Which gives the Qareen enough time to find Dean and taunt him a bit before trying to punch its fist through his heart. Luckily, the wife interrupts the witch trying to kill Sam in time for him to shoot her and stab the heart, just before the Qareen was going to rip out Dean's. And another bites the dust.

That leaves us with a final scene with the brothers, where Dean actually confesses who was his darkest desire. Sam is not surprised, pretty much at all. Score one for both being honest with each other and for Sam not being stupid. Dean is all angsty about it, like man, I won't be able to do it when I'm near her, but Sam's all "I got this." Carry on.

Random Thoughts:

- I know I don't always touch on the funny scenes in the actual recap portion here, but they are nearly always my favorite. It seems like it's becoming something of a tradition now, after the opening death, a funny/cute scene with the brothers in the bunker just being brothers.

- Also, we must comment on the rock-paper-scissors that Dean finally did not lose. Well, someone's growing! Why wouldn't he just do paper as his first thing, though, if he was sure Sam would do rock to beat him? Not growing enough, apparently!

- Is it sad I'd rather have these more standalone episodes now than the ones dealing with the overall plot? In the old days, it was almost always the opposite.

- You have to assume the writers have all seen It Follows. Incidentally, if you haven't, it's actually a really creepy movie that I recommend. One of the smarter and more interesting indie horror movies. Not that I've seen a ton of horror movies, but...yeah.

Quotes:

Sam: Is that a hickey?
Dean: And? It was Valentine's Day.

Dean: First, I need bacon.
Sam: No. First, you need a shower.
Dean: You're not wrong.

Dean: Hey what's a dad bod?

Dean: The Art of Dyeing. Well, can't say she didn't warn ya.

Supernatural 11x12 "Don't You Forget About Me"

Kim Rhodes as Jody Mills and Kathryn Love Newton as Claire Novak in Supernatural 11x12 "Don't You Forget About Me"I suppose it shouldn't really come as a surprise anymore, but I feel like I end up loving any episode that involves everyone's favorite erstwhile sheriff, Jody Mills. I know I've made it no secret that I think the show isn't as good as it used to be, but at least there are a few gems every now and then. I laughed quite a bit throughout this one, particularly during one scene that I'm sure everyone loved.

Anyway! On to the recap. Claire's been hunting down leads on supposed supernatural creatures in Sioux Falls, and calls up Dean and Sam for their help, unbeknownst to Jody, who, along with Alex, the other wayward teenager living with her, think Claire is looking for bad where there isn't any. Which leads to the most awkward family dinner ever, the above mentioned scene. Great for so many reasons, not least of which is how much the boys were eating, and how much they did not want to be around for any and all girl talk. Basically, Alex is doing great in school, dating the most popular guy, while Claire is too into hunting, and Jody isn't sure how to handle it all since she's not their real mother.

It soon becomes clear, though, that something is decidedly not quite right in town after all when Alex's favorite math teacher ends up dead and strung up the flag pole. That immediately made me think her boyfriend must've had something to do with it, like he was jealous of her liking him so much or something. In the end, I wasn't so far off. Of course, the squirrely janitor also seems rather suspect, particularly since he's being played by an actor I've seen on a bunch of stuff.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x12 "Don't You Forget About Me" Said squirrely janitor is definitely involved, particularly since the SSN he used for his custodian job belonged to someone else, and the fact that he showed up in town right when all of the people started disappearing. Claire is quick to say she was right all along, as teenagers are wont to do. More importantly, though, she and Jody get attacked by the janitor while heading to a meeting with her school registrar (though why would this meeting be at night, I must ask), who turns out to be a vampire. Luckily, Jody gets a call off to Dean, but they are taken nonetheless.

Turns out, janitor and pretty boy are working together, as Mr. Popular brings Alex to the abandoned pool where the janitor has brought the other two as well. In her past life, Alex had brought the janitor to her vampires, who killed him and made him one of them. So, he's out for revenge, ready to kill her family and make her feel the same pain. The three ladies have to fend for themselves a bit before the Winchesters can get there (not sure how they arrive at the same time when Sam seemed closer, but whatever), which leads to Claire being bitten and much fighting. Luckily, the girls are quite adept themselves and join in on the fighting against the vamps, who both get dispatched, like duh.

Of course, all of this makes Claire appreciate what she has much more than she was before, which is to say, not much. And also brings Claire and Alex closer, making them feel more like a family with Jody. In the end, Claire wants to keep hunting, but Alex thinks she wants to get away from it all. Both valid options to be explored later!

Random Thoughts:

- The guy in the opening looks waaaay too much like the guy who plays young Dean; that so confusing.

- Seeing the boys love a home-cooked meal was both hilarious and kind of sad. Loved that whole dinner scene in general.

- Do people really leave their keys in their car sun visors? I swear it happens all the time on TV and in movies, but is that a real thing?

- There has been a lot of talk about the Wayward Daughters concept for a spinoff show, and to me this only confirmed that it would totally work. I would've totally bought something like this as a backdoor pilot as compared to that crap they shilled before. I don't know that it would ever happen because it's such a fan thing at this point, but I would totally watch it.

Quotes:

Sam: Dude, I'm not gonna survive hundreds of monster attacks to get flatlined by some double donut monstrosity.
Dean: The Elvis!
Sam: Whatever. How many calories are in that thing?

Claire: I've been hunting.
Jody: AKA menacing innocent people.

Claire: I don't want to go to school.
Dean: Nobody wants to go to school, Claire. It's school.

Jody: It had to be the leg. I'm gonna need bionics.

Claire: I solemnly swear not to hunt like a dumbass.

Jody: As long as everyone wears a condom, we'll be fine.
Dean: I want that bumper sticker.

Supernatural 11x11 "Into the Mystic"

This week's episode was structured pretty classically. Supernatural death in the opening. Brothers investigate (although this time the first death was from years ago instead of the actual death they're investigating), they think they've found the thing and killed it, then whoops, another death, it's something else after all! If you look back on past episodes, this sort of thing happens a lot.

Misha Collins as Casifer in Supernatural 11x11 "Into the Mystic"The monster in question for this week is an evil banshee. It was pretty obvious based on the screaming tendencies; I'm just surprised they haven't done a banshee on this show before. Unless they covered one of the non-evil ones they mentioned and I'm just not remembering it. This one looked a bit like a floating medusa. Anywayz, the banshee in question brings them to Oak Park, a senior community. They meet Mildred, a flirty resident, and a supposed maid named Marlene, who wasn't actually around for any of the deaths, but looks gosh dark suspicious, so she must be related somehow.

Turns out, she's not Marlene, but rather Eileen, the daughter of the couple who died in the opener, out for hunter revenge on the banshee that killed her parents. Boy, Sam does some serious heart-to-hearting with her while they wait for Dean to go get some gold blades to help kill the evil banshee. Oh, and apparently her dad was part of the Men of Letters, because it's easy to have them pop up all over the place even though there were no hints at their existence until a few years ago. Yeah, yeah.

So, yes, Dean goes back to the bunker to get the gold blades, because apparently that's not something they usually carry around in the trunk. There, he runs into Casifer (I believe this is the moniker that everyone has pretty much decided on), who is in the bunker supposedly looking for information on Amara, but who knows what he's really up to. Instead, he gets an unexpected heart-to-heart from Dean. It's just heart-to-heart city this week on Supernatural! Dean tells him all about his odd attraction to Amara, and how he's not sure he can fight it. Oh gosh, give Lucifer some good intel, why don't you? I guess Cas is one of the only people Dean ever seems to confide in.

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Dee Wallace, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural 11x11 "Into the Mystic"Back to the banshee! They're going to use Mildred as bait since she has a bad ticker and they come after people with weaknesses. But, when the banshee shows up, she actually goes for Dean instead. So Dean starts bleeding from many places, and banging his head against the wall, until Mildred traps the thing and Eileen stabs it. Bye bye, banshee! Does this mean Eileen will go off and study law like her mom was doing before she died? Nope, she's a hunter, it's what they do. Does it mean Dean will get himself some Golden Girls-style lady action? Nope, because Mildred suspects his heart belongs to another. Dun dun dun!

Sam wonders why the banshee went after Dean. Like, why would he be weak? Weak in the heart? Lots of heart stuff happening this week, so it must be. Just what will Dean do about this attraction? And why, again, does he feel the need to hide it from his brother? Sheesh, with the man drama already. They're always hiding stuff from each other, and it never ends well.

Random Thoughts:

- I didn't really talk about it above because it's more of a tidbit than a plot point, but Eileen was not only a hunter, but a deaf hunter. It was fun to see her and Mildred signing about the boys being hot. Like, why don't more people talk about that?

- Casifer killed a fellow angel at the beginning of the episode, too. Angels can see that he's actually Lucifer inside. But, still no indication whether Castiel is still in there too, or if he's stuck down in the cage.

- What is Crowley going to do with this information about Lucifer? He doesn't seem to be a big fan, so not sure what he's doing right now. Suppose we'll find that out soon enough.

- The real question is what does Lucifer actually want? Does he want to get rid of Amara? And if he does, what does he want after that? And can he? All questions to be solved later.

Quotes:

Casifer: I'm here to save you all. Lucifer Ex Machina.

Dean: Maybe we should make a reservation.
Sam: Ha. We should be so lucky to live long enough.

Sam: Turns out Harold was stealing the other residents' Viagra.
Dean: I know. Real dick move, huh?

Mildred: You two are too cute to be FBI.

Mildred: Not bad. Honey, it's almost as gorgeous as you are.

Dean: Your hand is still on my knee.
Mildred: I could move it up.

Supernatural 11x10 "The Devil in the Details"

Winter hiatus is over already? Man. I remember when they used to feel long, and now they just whiz on by as if there was no break at all. As you may recall from last time, Sam got trapped down in the cage with Lucifer after he went there to ask him how to beat Amara, thinking it was God who sent him there. Meanwhile, Dean was up with Amara, who the angels tried to smite.
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural 11x10 "The Devil in the Details"
First off - did said smiting work? In a word - no. Duh. Obviously. That would get rid of the big bad at the midseason mark, and not once has this show ever done that. So, no, she's still around, gobbling up paper-pushing angels with names that rhyme with Castiel. Which gives Cas a chance to chat with her for a few moments. Instead of eating up his grace as she did the other aforementioned angel, she instead does a silly little thing to make sure Cas is in the same location as Sam and Dean - namely, in Hell - to "send a message." I Am Coming. Oh good. We didn't know.

Meanwhile, down in the cage, Lucifer is basically trying to mind game Sam into saying yes to him again, to be his vessel again. So I guess even though he said yes once, he has to say it again now that he's not possessing him anymore? Boy do these possession rules get hazy, which we'll talk about more later. So, Lucifer is showing Sam some of his past memories, which is the best thing about the episode. Because, one, we get to see Teen Sam in the guise of Colin Ford again, which we haven't seen in a long while, and two, we get to have to show at least acknowledge that Sam was not the only one to fall into the pit. Oh poor Adam, we see you, yet only Michael gets mentioned by Lucifer. You just never get any respect.

Misha Collins as Castiel, Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer in Supernatural 11x10 "The Devil in the Details"
Anyhow, Lucifer is basically telling Sam that he's lost his spark and/or mojo, in that in the past he would have been all up for sacrificing himself or others for the greater good, but now all he cares about is saving his brother. Which, he's not wrong there, Sammy. In the end, though, Sam does NOT say yes, for once doing a smart thing, we think. Which means Lucifer will just beat him to death, right?

Wrong-o, duh! You know Dean's found out where he is by now, and he's found his way into Hell after a brief chat with Billie the Reaper, who gives him a witch neck brace thingamajig that basically will make Rowena Crowley's slave. Which it does, just in time for her to do a spell to lock Lucifer back up in the cage. Oh, but only if he doesn't have a vessel first. We must say that loud and clear for all to hear. Dean and Castiel end up in the cage with ole Luci as well, just as Rowena says the spell and the go kapoof out of there. All seems to be well!

Or does it? Because it turns out Castiel is not the one who came back out of the cage. Rather, it was Lucifer inhabiting Castiel's body/vessel/wait whaaaaat? I'm going to rant about this in the random thoughts section, so go there for more detailed thoughts on this. While Dean and Sam ride off none the wiser, CasLuci or whatever people will be calling this new thing goes to chat with Rowena, supposedly to thank her, but really to snap her neck since she's apparently the only one who knows how to open the cage again. Really? She's the only witch in the entire world who can figure this out? Okay. Whatever. And whatever again. Goodbye Rowena, I wish I cared more about your death, but I don't. And is it really your permanent death, anyway? People never stay dead on this show.

Random Thoughts:

- Aw, Colin Ford! I was wondering if they'd ever be able to use him again. Alas, I don't think they'd use him with Dylan Everett, because he looks older than him. Which is a shame because they're the two best young versions of the Winchester brothers.

- Okay. We need to talk about this. Just how in hell can Castiel say yes to Lucifer? He's an angel. Already in a vessel, no? I know that it was sort of created for him, or something, because Jimmy died, and I don't even know anymore. The rules are so fast and loose now, it's just like they wanted to give Misha a chance to play Mark Pellegrino's version of Lucifer. And whatever happened to Lucifer needing a perfect vessel? Now anyone can just go around saying yes? Why not have Rowena get some other schmuck down in there and be done with it already? It just does not make any sense to me, and it will still seem like a cop out no matter what reasoning may or may not be given.

- I did like the trips down memory lane. And the subtle nod to the Amelia storyline being a bad idea with Lucifer saying it was Sam's biggest mistake. Touche, touche.

- Seriously, though, with the mentions of Michael and no Adam being tortured? Come on, now. Come on.
